True. But then, you can always boast about it later. "That time when
    I...."[/QUOTE]

    True.

Oh, the laughs I used to have in the playground, pointing out my
bruises, where I'd walked into chairs and tables, and stuff.

If so, IYHO are they right or are they wrong?

Indeed. But I still think to draw the "ban it" line between smoking
and drinking rather than to one side or the other of both is a
    defensible point of view.

Its mother must be so proud.....

I think I agree with you, mostly. Looking at my own smoking it's very
much a habit, rather than addiction. I can go for several days without a
cigarette if I happen to be in an environment where I don't usually smoke.
Put me somewhere where I *do* expect to smoke and I get the urge for a
    cigarette in very short order.

I reckon if I don't smoke that I do get a bit irritable for a short while
but it's not a major difference to my usual obnoxious self.

An air of quiet calm about him. Almost like a very efficient butler of
the sort who deftly handles the 'master'.

Not all of them are political reporters - I thought of Sergeant
    specifically for his war reporting
Depends what you mean by *that*. In truth I've not read much of his
journalism (tho I really rate his novels), but I think he's made a
worthwhile splash in the world. I'm sure his mum is proud.

There's loads of other really good newspaper columnists, too.

  14. That's me all the time. The scarey thing is going through 2 levels of
sleep. I "wake up" thinking "it was only a dream", but I'm still
dreaming and "wake up" again. Pass me that bottle.

  16. Yeah, I only light up when I've got a pint in front of me. This means I
never smoke before lunchtime. Hmm, "a jar or two..." that'll be the day.

  17. Here on the mainland, I'm paying about a <a small amount> a bottle for
Cardhu. Mind you, I don't buy a lot by the bottle, as a **** off great
glassfull in the pub is only 2 euros.

  18. I just can't believe what I'm hearing. It should be illegal for me to
roll up some bits of leaf and inhale the smoke from it? I would be
    tempted to take up arms.

    It's a slippery slope and I'm glad I'm 43 and not 23.

  19. I remember being in California before the ban went total. It was ok to
smoke if there were extractors. You could smoke your head off and nobody
else even noticed. What the hell was wrong with that?

    Lobbyists, that's what's wrong.
