And she's on the road on her own!

  1. Number One daughter in the Piaggio Ape, having test-driven the road from
home to her school and back.

And only one hoot from an irritated driver, who wanted to go faster than
15mph. Pah. Some people. On my old Raleigh five-speed, I used to *dream*
    about doing more than 15mph.

It's been a tough learning curve, learning to cope with clutch, gearbox
and all the various little Ape eccentricities[1], but she seems to have
mastered it now. She's got her mock GCSEs next week, and had made her
mind up that she was going to rock up to the exam room in the Ape, or
    not at all.

    [1] That covers everything, really.

Can she see over the wheel ? Or has she grown since I last saw her ?

I've got this vision of a pair of arms and a big fluff of hair over a
    steering wheel

  4. It's sixteener legal, because it's a 50cc.

Insurance can be a bugger, because many insurers classify it as a
commercial vehicle. However, some have now come to realise that people
just want them as moped runabouts. There's a list of insurers on the
home page. I went through MCE, who said it can be classified as a
    "special moped".

So £90-odd TPO for The Doctor and myself, plus another £90 to put Helen
on it when she turned 16.

We are all waiting for the reactions of her schoolmates: "oh dear, with
an old man as much in bikes as yours, that's all he could come up
with?", "At least you can bring the booze for the next binge".

But respect, my own daughter would not be caught dead in one.

Only because your daughter would have much more choice of funky
scooters at the age of 14. :)
