...and now they've stolen the Gamma!

  1. You, sir, win the prize. You are totally correct. I finally found
where the info is hidden on Tesco's Web-site. Both Uxbridge and Yiewsley
"Metros" will be closed on Monday; The Cowley Road "Express" will be open.
However, given that it closed its wine section at 11pm when I called in
on my way home from the last darsyfest, I'm not convinced that it will be
    selling 13.5% Chilean white.
Was that a rhetorical question[1]? Bring a couple of surveilllance
cameras for the back yard and you might just have yourself a deal!

[1] Hmm, a wattle of bisky, a wine-cask of Aussie white, a pottle of bort,
a few litres of cider... What else?

I dunno. If I was a particle at CERN I can't say I'd be mighty

  3. Oi, that was an historic bike, that was. First Suzuki to win a
Formula II race in Western Canada; only bike I've ever won a race on; only
bike I've ever won an "International" race on. Two 8-lap heats at
Westwood in drizzling rain at 35 F -- I was the only rider not to crash!
It helped that I'd juggled the needles to broaden the power-band edge from
2 rpm wide to, ooh... 25 rpm, but I was still suddenly spinning the rear
out of the hairpin in first and maintaining it up the hill in 2nd. The
    crowd loved it. :)
I'm thinking of training my "pets" -- attack robin, anyone?

Dr Ivan D. Reid scribbled on the back of a napkin:
Well, AFAIR they're pretty good at braining their rivals so you'd just
need to train them to brain something bigger.

Trouble is that the shitbags that have been helping themselves to your
bikes probably have smaller brains than your average robin...

  9. In the light of day I find the wooden gate in a sorry state but the
lock unscathed; they appear to have kicked/pushed it until the horizontals
cracked and the gate bowed. So it probably wasn't the original lot who
were much more professional and cut the padlock with boltcutters.

    There's a brick missing from the "bird pond" I built the starlings;
it's lying in the grass between where the bike was and the gate, so that's
probably what was used to smash the cable-lock (just a cheap Wilko's lock
    used as a deterrent/hindrance).
I can't think what they are going to do with it; it'll need extensive
restoration for any purpose, and it'd be shite as a field bike.

You wouldn't be shipping them back to Oz and claiming the insewrance?
I'm imagining a kind of revolving VAT fraud but with bikes and
    insewrance!

I've only had a bike stolen once. It was quite traumatic and I feel your
    pain.

  13. The Gamma's the only one I bought in Oz; Black Kat is Swiss and
AFAIK TOG sold me a Brit DT175MX. The Gamma's also unregistered and
uninsured, and has been that way for over 18 years. Hm, no, make that
17 years -- I shipped it from Wancouver with a full year's R&I, but never
got to ride it in .ch.
Guess I can flea-bay the spares now. Anyone want a rebuilt crank?

Oh, they had PolAir searching around my house and across Pield
Heath at noon today -- only twenty-odd hours late, fellas!

  15. Our local supermarket shuts at 5pm.

I thought I might toddle down there at 4.15pm to see what they're
frantically yellow-tagging. Last year I scored a whole turkey for a
fiver (it went into the freezer).

  16. Pikeys[1] don't care. They nick it "because it's a bike".

And the parts are worth quite a lot.

  17. They were marking down the fresh turkeys about 12:30 in the
Yiewsley Tesco -- I'd already got a small one (3kg) in Uxbridge yesterday,
marked down from £9.59 to £7.59. What with having to go back to work
to track down Gamma's ID numbers for the cops, I didn't get finished
cooking it until about 9:30 last night.

Time to consider keeping the remaining one in the kitchen/living

    Possibly not.

    But a Reliant Robin.

IIRC, you can drive it on a full bike licence, as long as the reverse gear
    is blocked off.......

Strange, when you can ride an outfit wif reverse gear.....

  19. That's what the incident officer who just phoned to take the
details was asking. Black Kat's on the "patio" at the moment awaiting enough
tuits to get the brakes sorted; I could put a ground anchor into one of the
    blocks, I suppose.
I do have a car licence, I just don't use it often.
