And now the waiting ...

I was chatting to a biker (whose name and address I do not know, having
never, ever met them before) and they were telling me the following tale ...

On his way home this evening he was doing a harmless little bit of
overtaking on some chevrons (with broken white-lines surrounding them) on a
single carriageway with some on-coming traffic.

Unfortunately one of the on-coming vehicles in the queue happened to be a
fully marked-up traffic car.

When my acquaintance spotted the traffic car, and vice versa, the traffic
car stuck it's lights on and the passenger made a gesture which may have
been "slow down!" or "stop overtaking!" or, equally, might have been "pull
over, we want a word with you!".

Whichever way my friend (who was 6' with a vivid scar on his face, one
glass-eye, a finger missing on his left hand, no front teeth and was wearing
leathers and a lid very similar to mine) decided that he was not going to
stop and debate the finer points of the RTA by the roadside and had it away
on his toes, reasoning that as the traffic was heavy and the copper was
going to have to do a U-turn he had a reasonable chance of not being nicked.

He managed to make it home (wherever that may be) without sight of a police
car behind him and none have turned up at his house since.

However, he was wondering if the coppers managed to get his number and, if
so, would they just stick a NIP in the post, or would they turn up in person
to have a chat about his behaviour.

I told him I'd ask the law-enforcement bods on here, but as I am unlikely to
ever see him again (as he is emigrating to Alaska right now) the answer will
only be to satisfy my own curiosity.

Watching one of those 'police stop' shows the other day, they did point
out that there's nothing illegal about using the chevrons, but that they
were going to pull the bloke for due care.

Pretty sure they'd have to have video evidence to make that one stick,
though.

He was fine at the weekend, but he's working away from home ATM, so I
haven't seen him for a few days.

At a push he might be fit enough to ride a bike again, but he doesn't have
one so the point is moot.
