Last June, Number One Son was knocked off his then 125 at walking pace
by some blind bitch in a hire car. She grabbed his details, failed to
give any of hers, and fucked off sharpish. He didn't get her number.

Next thing we knew, she'd tried to tell Auntie Carole it was all his
fault. It was robustly pointed out that the 'failure to provide
details' had been reported to the police, and could she please supply
her name and address as the rozzers wanted it....

And surprise, surprise, everything went silent. Come renewal time,
though, he lost his NCB and his premium was jacked up because of the
'outstanding claim'. Some fast talking got the premium hike withdrawn,
but Equity Insurance said the NCB would be held in abeyance for a
year, in case she popped up again. Fair enough, I suppose.

Well, a year has gone by, and rather to my pleasure, unprompted by us,
Equity was as good as their word and notified Auntie Carole that
they'd closed the file and reinstated the NCB. He actually renewed
with MCE because CN's quote was still a bit steep, and MCE say that as
soon as we supply the proof of two years' NCB, which CN say they'll
send out to us pronto, then he (or rather my credit card) will be re-
    credited.

Nice to have a result, although I'll feel happier when it's genuinely
over, if you see what I mean.

I had a letter through last week with an offer of a 70/30 split over my
uninsured/excess claim from last year and I *nearly* took it to avoid
delays in courts, but thought I'd just check with my insurers if it
    would have any knock-on.

Lucky I did, as the lady there said although they have paid out to me
the actual file is being held open until the court claim is settled, and
acceptance of a 70/30 split would have meant that I accepted that I was
partially at fault and would therefore lose a load of NCB and get a
    premium hike.

Good result for your young 'un though.

  4. I always call myself Donald Duck when doing online insurance quotes, If
    it's a good deal I'll phone them.
    That's the best way.

Got a renewal quote from CN of 180-odd quid. Tried doing it online,
and was phoned by them two days later. The droid put the same numbers
in and got the same quote the online system had given me: 95.

    *ding*
    206 dropped to 170
The girl who phoned went down to 150, they promised to post the quote out
for me to read and accept but the mail is still rather sparse in the
    insurance quotation dept.

Liie I did today when some bint rang trying to sell us (me and the boychic)
a new traders policy. I asked he if she'd ever considered that IF we needed
a new insurer, we'd be phoning *her*, not her phoning us. She said something
along the lines of "Well you may not know about us or who we are"

I simply said "Let's try to keep things just the way they are then eh"?

Fucking tele sales do my fucking head in.

  8. Don't get me started on contract agency cold-calling to pimp me a
    contractor..

My usual phrase is "I don't hire as the result of cold-calls. If we
wanted someone we would go and hire them. Until then don't call me".

    Doesn't stop them though.

So far I have been told, I can't get a quote for more than 14 days in
    advance

    and now

Length of time lived in the UK cannot extend before your birth.
Hmm, according to them I have lived here less years than I have been
    alive.... ho hum

  10. My feelings too.

Still, it might make her think twice the next time she attempts a
    spurious claim.

I did telesales for 5 years, I was extremely good at it considering I
was cold calling and selling aftermarket retro-fit leather trim to car
    dealers.

They're fuckers and they usually manage to get me as I'm sitting down to
eat. Could be lunchtime, could be dinner, but I think they're watching me
    jusst fucking waiting.
Short of a nuke, I don't think anything will either.

  13. Anonymous Caller Reject is your friend. Most of them withhold their
numbers. They don't get anywhere near here - can't remember the last
time I had a cold call for anything.

Unfortunately, we get calls from the hospital on a regular basis and they're
always "withheld number". If I miss tthose, I'm in deep shit, so I'm sort of
stuck with hanging up on the telemarketer cunts.

  15. Last time Newham General phoned me they managed to get through OK, can't
remember what they presented though, but I can see the point if you
    expect to get Withheld calls.
