Oi! Not quite so pikey as it happens. The Etap in Limoges is a re-badged
(downgraded?) 'Mercure', so it has FREE WiFi and almost sumptuous
bathrooms.

He'd been trying without success to get it changed after his practice
results - he was playing it down, but he had to pass so many on his
first lap I reckoned it probably cost him a place or two overall.

Yeah, he got quite a few mentions, apparently - unfortunately we
couldn't hear a thing in the pits, so we were actually the last to
know some stuff, until Andy texted us fron the riders centre.

He was still floating too much a couple of hours (and pints) later, so
I had to drive it back for him.

Crappy old thing, it is, dog slow over the mountain... but it stands
up to stone gateposts quite well.

He needed to get another run on the 636 he was (planned to be) riding
in the Senior, as they'd been chopping the gearing around a bit. Was
clocked at 168mph on it, making it 3rd highest top end behind two
750s...

Listening to the Junior race, I caught mention of him being clocked at
equal fastest on the first or second lap - 167mph through a speed point.
I went "fucking hell".

Should have mentioned, exit from Ballaugh Bridge. I was sat on the coal
bunker at the Raven Pub with my right leg dangling over the track. Nice
friendly helpful marshall...

I was located at Quarter Bridge for the Senior. Got there nice and very
early for some snaps coming down the hill. They should have run the Senior
first (it would have been on time) followed by the UL/L after.

Yeah, I was at Ginger hall with the pit board, and we were all
thinking along the same lines. Got a couple of practice pickies from
the L/UL, but the only bits I have of Champ are a couple of video
clips of the start and his run-through of the pits in the Junior.

I'll put them up somewhere when a tuit becomes available, but they're
not very good. More of a memento for me than anything else.

Actually, my camera's at home, but I also took a couple on my phone,
which I have here at work - anyone give me an idea about how to get a
..3gp file to display in anything normal on Windows (Media player,
quick time, Movie Maker, etc.) ?

Ta, I might give it a try, but for now I've found that QuickTime can
open them, just not automatically (on my machine).

As good, if not better as the ones I took on my camera (not camcorder)
last year.

As you say, the main thing is that you have reminder of what it was like
to be *there* (on the pit wall).
