I suspect that it's more to do with airworthiness: Soviet military
aircraft probably aren't *automatically* considered airworthy just
because they were used by the Soviet military. Getting a design
approved is a difficult process.

I *imagine* that as Hawks and the like, being relatively cheap to run
privately and being British anyway, one example probably got through
the approval process for private use so the basic design got approved.

Lightnings, for example, despite being a British fighter, aren't
considered airworthy in this country AFAIK, in private hands at least.

 

That, and the fact they wanted to hide me not having been issued a
dress uniform at that point.

No. The Hawk is a trainer and nothing more. Unless they've done a lot
of work on it very recently the RAF don't even have a weapons system
for it.

stations. The range of external stores includes air-to-air missiles, a

bombs, cluster bombs, practice bomb and rocket carriers and external
fuel tanks.

It's just a category of aircraft - single engine, jet. As far as the CAA
are concerned, if you can afford it and are qualified on type, fine.

I'm unaware of any changes to the rules, but I'd not be totally
surprised if the Govt decided to exclude ex-military aircraft from the
civilian register, given the safety culture that's slowly strangling
enjoyment of powerful machines.

 

Seem to be damn few Indians for the number of chiefs, but then again,
all flying personnel should be counted as Indians at the sharp end.

Seems a waste to have wings made up and pinned on chests if they're not
going to be used. I take it the chair polishing going on outweighed any
notion of flight.

MOD civil-servants who couldn't give up the day job at weekends.
