Ancient signal for breakdowns?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Radbert Grimmig, Jun 8, 2008.

  1. In the olden days, when German motorcyclists had a breakdown, they
used to tie a yellow scarf to the handlebars, signalling passing
    fellow motorcyclists they needed assistance.

Was there something similar in the anglophone world?

IIRC, there used to be a convention of placing your helmet next to your
rear wheel to indicate that you had a mechanical problem.

These days, that situation is more likely to be holding a mobile phone
to your ear and repeated kicking of the afflicted component.

You take the AA/RAC/Green Flag card from your wallet and dial the
number on it using your mobile.

Last time I whipped that out...almost got a public indecency charge
f*ck that! As for those electronic leashes...got rid of the last
disposable one and wont have another. More trouble than it's worth,
    same as a credit card.

They any good for bikes? I've heard stories that if they have to
physically move said bike YMMV and whether it makes it in tact.

I've had no problems with bike recovery by both Green Flag and AA.

Green Flag, however, contract out to a local supplier and I was lucky
to get my own bike dealer at the time.

At last. Something that Mr P can actually use a bike for.
Just so long as they're not expected to ride the fucker eh?
