An (almost on-topic) ethical dilemma for the group

A delivery guy has just been to my house and I am now the owner of a large
cardboard box which contains my Christmas present from Lisa.

Obviously I don't know what it is yet, but it does have a subtle clue in
that the box is marked "Hornby" and "Moto GP Set".

SWMBO says that I can either open it now or wait until Christmas, providing
that if I open it now I don't whinge on Christmas day that she hasn't bought
    me anything.

I would normally just wait until Christmas, but we're flying down to the
in-laws this year and my present is too big to take on the plane, so I'm
going to have to wait until the week after Christmas to open it.

There are lots of issues here, obviously, like how I explain to Emma why
Santa Claus has delivered my present early, but not hers, but I suppose they
boil down to "Eddie, are you busy tonight?"

Give your glasses a quick clean mate - it actually reads "Horny Homo Gimp
    Suit".

You could tell her it's last year's xmyth present delivered 11 months late.

Well she has been a bit of shit recently, so I could just tell her that if
she was good then she might get early presents as well.

Heh... I've been dropping hints about that too. Need to find enough
    uncluttered floor space for it.
Hmmm... I'd wait until after Christmas, IIWY. I mean, it's only
    November, FFS.

It's obviously Lisa's fault for being too efficient, mind.
That's a *very* good reason for not opening it.
    Unfortunately, yes.

But if you do decide to open it (which you shouldn't) I might be free
    tomorrow night...

    Oooo, double length track.
Yeah, I think you're right. If I don't open it then I can probably guilt
Lisa into buying me another present so that I've got something to open on
Christmas morning at her mum's house.
    It's her major failing.
    Ah, you're swotting, aren't you?
Nah, let's go for a beer instead.

Hmmm... have to make sure I get a different set for more variety.
    Good plan.
    I'm sure she'd agree.
Aye, in between coughing my guts up.
You've talked me into it. I'll have to get permission first, mind.

    <memory lane>

Reminds me of being caught playing with my new "Hot Wheels" set in
December '68 (69?) which I'd "found" on the top of my parent's
    wardrobe.

Well, you wouldn't whinge like that, would you?
    Much too long to wait.
Just open it, and write a review so the rest of us can decide whether
    to get one.

    PS: Bah humbug.

After careful consideration I've been told by the wife that we're having
Christmas II the day we get back from her mum's place and that I can open it
then, so you won't get a review until 30th December[1].
I get wrong for saying that :(

[1] I booked my tickets months ago, so I got the Newcastle to Bristol round
trip for just under 90 quid for the three of us, with taxes and everything.
Some time later I went to check the flight times and discovered I'd booked
the trip back for the end of January rather than the end of December. It
cost 120 quid extra to get the tickets changed ... stupidity can be _really_
    expensive.

Do all parents have some genetic memory whereby they always hide
presents either in or on top of wardrobes?

  13. And then swear on a stack of Bibles that no, your Scalextric set _isn't_ up
in the attic, 'cos it's Santa that's bringing it, so how _can_ it be up in
    the attic ..?
