I've got a real life thanks. That's why I don't spend every evening
    posting here.

"It's not as if I do it every time"; that time was enough- and you seem
thick enough to need educating in so many ways.
    Didn't snip then either.

It might shock you to know that I'm not particularly bothered what you
    think of me.

Fucking hell, you really are trying to prove youself an ignorant
newbie, aren't you? Anyone who's been around for more than five
minutes knows at least a little about who Ben's been working for for
    the last few years.

I'm not a newbie, but haven't been around here much for
a few years. So **** off and go polish some gold taps or
    something.

Let me guess, you sold them years and years ago?

Good to hear from you again, mind. You back for keeps?
    Something like that, yes.

See? Nobody tells me ANYTHING. You treat me like I moved

oh. wait. Vancouver Island. As you were then.

  6. Marc, you do realise you're talking to a West Ham supporter, who I

  7. Oh come on - we took that as read as soon as he announced he'd bought
that huge pick up truck. No turning back after that. He'll be joining
the board of Man Utd with the Glaziers next.

I'm probably the thickest **** on this board, but it didn't stop me retiring
    when I was 38.
    Really? I never would've guessed.
I rather think that it's you who prompted this exchange. Now I wonder why.
Anyway, like I said before, just **** off, you're boring the shit out of me
    now.

Newbie? Are you for real or what? Please elaborate. A newbie is "what"
exactly? Someone who's not posted here since the year dot? Someone who
doesn't know everyone's alter ego? A definition would help.

Anyone who's been around for more than five
Check Ivan Reid's post (I believe he's been around here for more than 5
minutes too) on exactly the same subject and then tell me how everyone who's
been here for more than 5 minutes and doesn't know the in's and out's of
everyone else's life and work habits here is an ignorant newbie. And Ivan
has MET the man in question, but of course, you'll know that, being the post
    counter/historian.

I can't see what the pilot is expected to do. Standing in court and
stating that he made a mistake in a war situation isn't going to bring
anyone back or prevent the same thing from happening again. I've seen
reports stating that he was 'subdued' when he came home and certainly
didn't go around claiming to be a hero.

I'm probably a minority of one, but I think it's a good idea putting
him in charge of training because he can tell new pilots how easy it
is to make a mistake and kill people on their own side.

Someone who hasn't a clue about who they're talking to. The assumption
is that such cluelessness can only be attributed to not having been
    around for very long.

What, this one: " Marc, you do realise you're talking to a West
    Ham supporter, who I think you've met a few times?... " ?
Seems to me that he knows who's who perfectly well. It's Marc who's
out of date, having moved back to Canada five or six years ago.
Not everyone - you're the only one that's making a fuss about the
    label.
Of course I knew that, I've met them both on many occasions too. And
Marc, sometimes all at the same gathering.

Nor can I, but his superiors could offer some kind of
    symapthy/acceptance/something.

    Standing in court and
But it would tell the soldiers widow he was sorry it happened and that
appears to be all she wants. I didn't get the impression she wants the man
sent darn but I did get the impression she'd accept an apology and see that
as, if not the end of the matter, at least a point whre she could start to
    see an end. IYKWIM.

    I've seen
    He isn't, it's his neighbour(s).
Those who can't, teach? I'm not an advocate of that, but "shooting first and
asking questons later" is probably something he can relate to more than
    most.

Yeah :)) Ok I fucked up attributionism on that.
Probably because I'm the one who got the label attached, don't you think?
Yet he's not a thick **** or an iognorant newbie for making the same
assumption I did. Ah well, that's ukrm.

I've not been able to piece this together from what I've read as the
stories seem to focus entirely on the pilots, but (if it's not secret /
confidential) was the person that gave that info held accountable in any
    way?

Of course not. He's been around for years and is known, so he can't be
    a newbie, can he?

It's not personal, you know. The only people that start to think it is
end up making a very hard time for themselves.

CAS pilots I've conversed with on this issue generally are sympathetic
but at the same time critical that the A10 pilots were unprofessional
in their actions. There was no attempt on the transcript to use any
of the approved techniques to unambiguously identify the target - no
units of measure are given, no geographical referencing. There was an
admitted inadequate brief on ident of friendlies. The pilots seem to
have talked themselves into beleiving that what they saw fitted their
mental picture and then acted accordingly. The FAC certainly is not
blameless but ultimately the responsibility is with the guy that pulls
the trigger. Combat troops have to take snap judgements, but it does
seem that this was very poor judgement.

It's a figure of speach, but those orange "Im a friendly" indicators on top
of the vehicles should've given him something to go off.
