    ^^^^^^^^

    [bad form, yadda, yadda...]

No I know it's time to go to bed; I've lapsed into "marketing bollocks".

    Night.

  4. I am not certain whether "Egg Parka" was truly the brand name for the
Japanese product, but that is how it was referred to by some people I
    worked with.

Plenty of versions of the concept have sprung up, largely based on
inflatable lifejackets. With those which retain the neck roll from the
lifejacket (present to keep the mouth and nose of an unconscious wearer
clear of the water), there is the risk of incompatibility with the
helmet design and people with short necks, which might lead to
hyperextension of the neck. :-( Also, the air channels in the products
I have seen are not protected from the impact abrasion and impact cut
effects of hitting the road, so might well burst the moment they hit
    the ground!

AFAIAA, only two products have passed the CE safety tests for back
protection for motorcyclists - the Sumitomo "ZO2" (which features a
layer of abrasion and cut resistant fabric twixt road and air channels)
and DPI Safety's "MotoAirBag" (heavy duty Cordura outer fabric). These
two products do not feature the neck roll.
