Am I missing something?

Just though I'd post this link: -
    http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/n...s/newsevents-pressreleases-item.htm?id=164911

Couldn't believe the circumstances - was this bloke insanely stupid, or
would there be a good reason for covering up your headlight?
I've racked my brains trying to work out why he did this, but can't come up
with an answer. Am I missing something obvious, or is there a lot more to
    this story?

  2. Back in the day, they sold fluorescent orange headlight covers made of
stretchy plastic, but short of stone guards I've never seen anything
    like them since.

    The bloke was a fuckwit.

One of the SV forum has 996 with a pair of headlight covers fitted that
have eyes painted on. Tasteless and useless they are. He's been known
to leave a function early because he doesn't like removing them. The
last time I saw him ride it was twilight in Wales last summer and I
very nearly overtook a car into his path because I didn't see him.

To show just how tasteless the guy is, every year at christmas he
covers the thing in brown fur and sticks a pair of false antlers on it
along with a bright red nose.

Yep, aparently he's not riding at the mo because of his sight or
    something.

A lot of people on the SV forum don't have SVs. They used to, at some
point, and then the graduated, but they still use the forum socially.

    Me and Lozzo, for example.

The forum has one of the best social sides to it that I have ever come
across, and it's becoming a little more robust since Ogden and I
started posting there. Unlike a lot of forums out there, the SV crowd
meet up regularly in their various areas[1], and every year they have a
massive camping/rideout weekend that's organised by a different area
group each time. In 2009 it was Essex and last year it was just over
    the border into S. Wales.

They really are a great bunch

[1] I often pop down to London to spend a night with them near Ronnie
Scott's on Frith Street. I can honestly tell my kids I spend all night
in Soho with strange men dressed all in leather.

    Bloody newbies.

I had an SV before they'd even thought of an SV forum.

Only teasing. It used to be the other way round with the Vincent club.
They all rode BSA Bantams to meetings most of the time.
