I'm impressed that you could sit on a bed, and then sit down, again, whilst
    sat.

And has this particular stalker got a foot fetish?

Well , not really all that conversant with which frames and all that ... but
carbide precipitation can be a problem with some alloys , and most stainless
steels . And localized hardening from the heat of the welding process can be
    a real problem ...
More just general knowledge of metals , rather than specifics of any
    particular application .

Believe it or not that makes sense...never been fanatical enough to
soften a weld back to the same hardness as the rest of the frame. I've
seen the results of that a couple of times.

Hmm, I built a perfectly useable (1) outfit for under £2k.

    (1) In the right hands.

Are you talking about the farmer or the butcher? Two people built
outfits from scratch and both did the trip but one was a bit more
    stable than the other.
The information's out there but putting it into practice isn't all
that simple because so many different things end up having an effect
    on the handling.

There is probably a published formula somewhere that establishes the
    optimum
side car wheel location forward of the motorcycle's rear axle in
    relation to track width.

But a good start would be 10 to 12 inches lead with a 48 inch track.

And 1 inch of toe-in will help the rig go straighter down the road.

Adjustability allowing an inch of positive camber on the hack wheel is
    desirable too.

An old machinist in the same industrial park where Side Strider is
still located after all these years used to cleverly machine upper
triple clamps in such a way as to reduce trail so that the side hack
owner didn't need to buy an expensive Earles fork...

  13. Yes, but you know what you're doing, and it still wasn't an overnight
    job.

  14. Clue: people didn't and don't necessarily fit outfits with Earles forks
    simply to change the trail.

The man's an idiot who's obviously never put an outfit together and
anyone that can't see through him needs their head banging against a
    wall.

It took a total of about 4 weekends to get it somewhere near right
then numerous changes to tyre pressures and suspension settings but
it's still an ongoing project (if I could be arsed) if I want it to be
    dead right.

I still think that changes to the suspension make as much difference
as changes to the geometry of the outfit and if you leave a bike with
stock suspension then hang a lot of weight off the side of it you're
    looking for trouble.

Mine still misbehaves when it's fully loaded but I'm confident that
it'll be ok when I change the shock on the chair for something with a
bit of damping in it. If I wasn't using the Tenere for the Elefant I'd
have sorted it out but lack of time and medical issues meant I just
couldn't do the work this winter.

    Wrong. My usage was *calculated*.

Four-eyed Juicy Fruit studied to become a lawyer (shylock), but wound
up shagging and now works as a hack reporter on trade magazines when
he's not selling Honda side reflectors on ebay.

And he certainly looks like a Jew, doesn't he?

It is amazing what difference tyre pressures make even on an otherwise
    pretty well set up outfit.
The chair suspension is pretty important. It needs to have a
surprisingly stiff spring as well as good damping on even a light chair.
As I found when my old mate and I first built the G80/Watsonian trials
    outfit.
