Not really - that's the specific case that was pointed out to me in
reasonably indepth and compelling detail, at the show - I'm more than aware
that other multinationals aren't exactly squeaky clean either.

I just haven't, like so many others, bothered to look indepth into this
subject before - shameful in its own way, I know... which brings me back to
my original point; the world needs more people like Mark Thomas... people
who get off their arse and research something like this before broadcasting
it to the masses in such a way that they sit up and take notice.

In a largely desensitised world that's fast disappearing up its own
commercial arse, Mark Thomas has done what countless other news reports and
documentaries depicting doom and gloom have failed to do - he's made me give
a bit of a shit about something I'd normally otherwise dismiss as irrelevant
to me, as I sit down, pausing only to remove my Nike trainers and Gap
sweat(shop) shirt, before then tucking into my McDonalds and washing it down
    with a Coke.

Channel 4 really ought to give him another series, that I do know anyway.
Sounds familiar on a more nationalistic scale, but I can't quite place where
I've seen this before in recent times... ;-)
    Indeed.

And did you stick to it?
    Ah... that.

I subscribed a while back and lurked... it's very, erm, off on multiple
    tangents, IYSWIM.
I'd vote for him, anyway... he really ought to go into politics and try to
get to a level where people would actually *have* to listen.

Well, yes - but I personally find that in the absence of any ability to
stomach tea or coffee, little else quite helps one wake up if feeling jaded
of a morning (Red Bull makes me hyper).

And if I'm hungover, it's the one thing bar more sleep that helps me feel
remotely human in as short a space of time as possible, is Coke - not Pepsi,
not Virgin Cola, and certainly not whatever toilet cleaner a supermarket has
relabelled as their own brand cola... especially if it is used to wash down
some painkillers also stuffed full of caffeine.

So... I now either give up drinking, find an alternative to Coke that's as
good in the aftermath of a session... or forget all I've listened to and as
a result then written on this subject in the past few days, and return to
    being a consumer whore.
    There isn't.

I never really knowingly did (1).

I am partial to a bit of Milky Bar now and again though... yet another of my
    vices knocked on the head!

One question I do have, is with regards to supermarket fuels...

I've yet to see a Sainsburys / Tesco / Asda refinery on my travels, so it's
safe to assume they buy their fuel off of one of the bigger boys - how
ethical is it therefore, if you're attempting to avoid buying say Shell or
Esso fuels, if you inadvertantly end up giving them business by buying fuel
that originated from their refinery, and thus providing them with income?

See... this boycott thing, if you're going to do it properly, isn't as
simple as it first appears... ;-)

    (1) And they sell more branded products than you'd think, thanks to, in the
main, a series of company takeovers they've performed in recent years, IME
of reading the label before putting something in the trolley, when shopping.

  10. If you've boughyt anything that used to be Rowntrees, for example,
you've bought Nestlé. Same goes for Findus.

  11. What fucks me off is that the Swiss are allowed to come here and buy
companies as they please, but you try to buy a Swiss company and see how
    far you get.

I wouldn't want to buy a Swiss company, the market for cuckoo clocks
    died years ago.

  13. How predictable. It's not like you come across on UKRM as being a vacuous,
    superficial plonker. No, really ...
