Alternator machining work

I've got an alternator that could probably use some machining
of its slip rings. Has anybody had similar work done locally ?
The windings are still OK but one ring is badly grooved.

I'm in the south bay, and the rotor is from a BMW airhead
(mounts onto a taper on the front of the crank).

    Thanks for any thoughts

A lathe is certainly better, but if the rotor mounts the way I
think it does there's very little to grab in a chuck or on centers.
Unless somebody has an accurate mandrel of the right dimensions
the file trick might be a reasonable first try.
