There was a South Park episode where Chef tried to explain all this.

What did they say - good stuff, or bad?
I may have been at work when they were filming - what an oversight.

  4. Oh they mentioned about sand golf but also about some championship
standard green golf course (yes one with grass).

Lots of commentary about how much growth in tourist numbers was
expected, how the Qatar government were investing billions in tourist
development. They stressed how safe Qatar is (for the moment anyway -
wait till Saudi has an Islamic revolution!!!). There was also a feature
on a conference held in Doha on the tourist trade and to round off there
was a feature on the expansion plans of the airlines like Emirates and
    Qatar Airways.

There's a second programme this weekend but I think it is about another
    Gulf State.
    Too true.

That's where I played the other day. It's a lovely course. Had the
European tour here a few weeks ago.
Tourism's going to pick up. The real problem is lack of things to do,
except shopping and dining. Need more recreational activities
    available.

There's the F1 GP in Bahrain, and I'd have thought that a few people
will stay here for that. There's the MotoGP in October, but the
promotion for that hasn't really kicked into gear yet.

There was an article in the Gulf Times last week saying that in five
years time Qatar wants to be attracting tourists like Dubai.

Qatar Airways is one of only a few airlines to have placed orders for
the double-decker Airbus - I'm quite excited about that, personally.
