Almost suicidal

  1. Is this where I mention it is 34C and sunny here right now?

Mind you, the 44C days can go **** themselves. That's nasty.

  2. I found 40+ degrees in the States to be mostly bearable, as it was dry heat.

I say mostly, because camping, in a tent, with a night time temperature
of 46C and humidity increasing with every breath, was not so pleasant.

  3. It regularly goes over 40C here in the Summer, but I'd say it feels roughly
equivalent to 25C in the UK.

But who would be daft enough to even attempt it.

  5. Didn't have a choice - no room at the inn during an unexpected heatwave.

Fortunately we were close to the river, so keeping cool in the daytime
    was easy enough.

It's a strange fact of life that camping in rather cool conditions beats
extreme heat. Just as long as it is dry.

  7. Not /that/ strange, after all, you can almost always make yourself warmer.

  8. Yeah, that's what we cop here. Mid-40s with NW winds that have crossed
the dry continent but then pick up moisture over the Victorian ranges
and arrive here nice and humid. Joy. At least in Tasmania (which is
only 300km away) the cross of Bass Strait cooled most of the shit
    down.

  9. Yeah - nothing worse than a hot tent with no arirflow. We have a New
Years Eve festival here called Falls Festival. It's great fun. Lot's
of major international and national bands, plus a good mix of local up
and coming acts. Camping area set up great. But of course you get
pissed and stay up til 3-4am in the morning. Sleep in when the sun
comes up? Not a fucking hope in hell. And in mid-summer that is around
7am. By 8am it is 30+C in the tent and you just have to get the ****
out of there. Thankfully there is beach in easy walking distance.
Sleep can wait a few days.

  10. The way I have always explained it is "There are only so many layers
of clothes you can take off".
