I had a look at some of the MZ racing sites - while that looks cheap, and
potentially a laugh, even their "quick start" PDF was banging on about
replacing pistons and getting lathes involved.

Or Forgotten Era, or Bemsee's "Yamaha Past Masters" (effectively
TZRs). You can get a decent bike for 1~1.5k

Sorry, I'm trying to explain to someone what a "tab-delimited ASCII file"
is. Specifically what a tab actually is, and how, using Notepad, one might
insert one into a text file.

Good job they're not in charge of a massively distributed network of
    embedded systems, or anything.

But anyway, racing. I'm pretty stoked by the thought of me tearing around a
race track on some tuned-to-the-tits fully faired sportsbike in front of an
adoring crowd of fans and kicking everyone's arses to kingdom come, but I'm
increasingly convinced that I'm actually quicker on a supermoto. But my
legs are all weak and spindly, so I'm not sure that's a good idea either.

I know: I'll start a race team with me as the star rider, but then I'll be
ill or something, get a sub, and cheer myself on from the grandstand.

I had an issue explaining a CSV file to a frenchard the other day,
with complications because the dozy fuckers use commas as decimal
    points.
shit - that was *my* plan.

What's wrong with simply going out to enjoy it and gain the experience?
You'll still be leagues above those that don't dare.

Steel Frame class with Derby Phoenix. A cheap and effectively single
make class all running pre '99 CBR600's, great for novice riders.
You'll get a competitive bullet proof bike for £2k and a good mixture
of riding ability to race against. You'd be doing *extremely* well to
finish top 15 but you certainly wouldn't finish last.

If the litre class floats your boat you can try out my gixxer on three
    conditions:

    1) You bend it you mend it.

    2) If you use it all day you pay for the fuel and one set of new
    Rennsports (£180)

    3) You come to Mallory Park 'cause I'll be fucked if I'm driving to

Correct but when you're racing there's a point to it all rather than
just circulating a track x times. I think 99% of racers nowadays have
done trackdays, moved through the groups, run at the front of the fast
group all day, got bored, gone racing.

Racing has cost me the best part of £15k over the last two years yet
all I think about is how to pay off the CC over winter to get the
funds for next season. Oh and justify spending all that money with a
    young family to support.

I reckon everyone interested in going quick on a bike should give it a
go at least once in their life. Bit of a PITA just to get the license
    nowadays though.

Lovely offer and all but I don't think I'm ready for that.

That shouldn't stop you from doing it. I've seen you ride and you're
more than capable of holding your own in a race. I've never seen
darsy ride but I believe he's about the same pace as Cane who I have
seen ride and that pace would be more than enough to prevent any
    embarassment at racing.

The thing I've found with racing is [1] there isn't the testosterone
fueled "I'm as fast as **** I am" attitude you get on trackdays.
You'll get the same amount of respect for being out there whether you
finish first or last. There's a guy in the steel frame class that's
been doing it for a few years now. He gets lapped after about two
laps but nobody puts him down about it because he's out there having a
go and when people come up to lap him he doesn't do anything stupid.

[1] At least with Derby Phoenix anyway

interesting. I'm assuming that despite the name, you don't actually
have to either go to Derby or do some sort of resurrection from ashes
    trick?

You could do but you'd be better of turning up at:

    Snetterton
    Anglesey
    Cadwell Park
    Mallory
    Croft
    Oulton Park
    Donington

If you go with these next year I'll be there to help/heckle.

    Resurrection is of course optional.
