Do I remember correctly, hearing something bad about alloy ends on brake
lines - was it that they were not really something that someone would want,
    and why?

They have a reputation for fragility.

They're apparently easy to overtighten, which weakens them, leading to
cracks just where you don't want them. Loss of hydraulic pressure is
    bad for your underwear.

Why would you want alloy ends anyway? You don't want pretty anodised
bits on your new bike already, do you? You don't want to go
smothering it with bolt-on goodies you know - look what happened to
    Filth ...

    Pip wibbled incoherently...
.....worse still, it could end up totally bedecked in purple bits.

It has them on already, apparently - I haven't looked to see what colour
they are, but it was noted on one of the MOT receipts for some reason.
