  1. 's probably 'cos carbs are narrower than cylinders - the carb bank can be
more compact. Mind, I don't see why you can't design the head with an
angled inlet tract to match. There's no real need for it to have a kink in
    it.

  2. The reason is so that the carbs don't bash your knees. It's as simple as
    that.

  3. Heh. I wondered about that. Bet the pattern exhaust headers are
    single-skinned.

No offence, Timo, but I don't want you going anywhere near it. :)

  6. You know, I think I'd have to see it in the flesh. At Chimay,
presumably. There are one or two little things that just have me rubbing
    my chin pensively.

  8. The exhaust. I think, but ICBW, that Jama is generally accepted as the
best pattern system for CBXs. Marving - I dunno. Maybe a cheapskate
choice, but I don;t know how they price up.

The engine - shows signs of someone having had a damn good clean of it.
Hard to tell from the pix, but I think there was a lot of surface
    corrosion there at some time.

Seat I've mentioned. From the pix, it doesn't looks well done.

    The paintwork seems excellent.

Overall - I'd say "bought as a semi-project by someone who didn't have
the dosh or time to do it properly".

But I need to see it in the flesh, really. I think 4k, on the face of
    it, was over the odds.

Me either. It is shiny, thobut.
Having just fitted the Rickman engine bars, it looks as if it's just
    surface corrosion, with flaky paint.
I might get a replica cover from TimsCBX.com, and wave a bottle of
    something appropriate[1] under Lozzo's nose.
It's got tiny issues. The tank has a tiny scratch, and a couple of
chips on the lower seams. The tail unit has a crack, dead centre,
where it rests on the subframe. It got worse about half an hour ago,
when I dropped the seat unit in the garage.
When the Prev Owner got it, it was, according to Adrian, at A&H[2,3],
"a bit scabby". It's considerably less scabby now. It was going to go
in for an engine shotblast and rebuild session, until the prev-owner
    heard the quote.[4]
As Linda said: "if you got a mint one, you'd be scared to take it out
the garage in case it rained." I'd go along with that.

It doesn't really matter how much it cost, it's how much it will cost
to own. I paid over the odds for the KH500, and still made money.

One thing I am sure of - it's not getting cash thrown at it in heaps.

[1] Probably Orange squash, the abstemious little scamp.
[2] Top bloke for CBXs in the South East, apparently.
[3] A veritable Aladdin's Cave. In there today, I saw no less than 4
CBX motors in bits, a tidy red one outside, alongside two immaculate
Z900s. Inside were two H1As in showroom condition, if not better; one
of Mr Millyard's 4-pot "triples" - the 666[5]; and holy of holies, an
H1C. Very nasty condition, but, importantly, complete.
    [4] >£1000
[5] "He's a great engineer, but no electrician" Runs everything off
points, apparently, so Adrian's building an electronic system, for it.
