I used to play scrabble with a friend's parents. Who I see quite
independently of said friend, so friend's parents are friends in their
own right, I suppose. Anyway. I'm not allowed any more, because of my
championing of the adoption of a new (Blaney-devised)rule. They claim
    I'm a bad loser, and that I sulk. Really, I'm not and I don't.

Was this the "Acronyms are valid words if introduced by a person who has
the same initial constanant for both his fore and surname" rule?

I don't mind new rules, as long as they're consistent with the game in
hand. I managed to prepend "dengue" to "fever" last night, which gave
    rather a jolly score.

No, it was a rule whereby players can buy and sell letters for points.

You see, I was just about to make my best-ever word, involving a Z and
an X and another high value letter. Can't remember what it was. And it
was going onto another word, making yet another, and hitting a triple
word score. And all I needed was an innocuous E, or A. They were all
on the board bar one. The person who had it was going to come last
whatever happened, but wouldn't sell it because it wasn't in the riles.

These friends are fairly centre-right politically, so I gave forth that
we had possibly a perfect market scenario, where goods would reach
equilibrium price, and self-interest was intrinsically good, and there
were no loyalties just individuals, and competition would improve
    performance, and all that.[0]

And they just said I was bad-tempered and a poor loser, and now we're
not allowed to play anymore. Well, we can if I promise not to get
worked up about the whole letter-sale issue. But I've still got a bile.

[0] Though, for the record, I have since revised some of these
    theories.

Good work. I've got a scrabble dictionary around somewhere.
