All Sabine wants for Xmas...

  1. "Racing, pacemaking, etc" is what you should look for on your policy.
It doesn't have to specifically include the 'Ring, but by **** the
bastards will make sure it does when faced with a claim.

It'll probably take a while to get a judgement on that, though.

IMHO the main issue is that we seem to have a bunch of insewerants who
decided that they can use all sorts of weasel words to essentially
ignore the law in another EU country (the one that specifically states
that this road is a public road and that all the requirements for public
roads apply, like registration, insurance etc). The problem is that if
they get away with it, they can exclude other roads they don't like in
continental Europe - maybe they think the Stelvio is too dangerous, so
your insurance cover ends at the bottom of the pass?

    It's a PITA but I'm kinda with SteveH on this - I wasn't going to risk a
protracted legal fight with an insurance company because they think they
can decide which public road I'm allowed to drive on and which one I'm
    not. So I didn't go.

  3. I've used the Meerkats and Confused.com in the past, with great success.

Mind you, that was a couple of years ago. When my present insurer sent
me a renewal note, the price was (amazingly) about the same as the
previous year's cover - certainly not high enough to prompt me to start
    hunting for a new quotes.

The comparison websites may have lost ground since then. I dunno.

When the insurance came up for renewal on the Bandit, I, as ever, declared
every modification from standard. It made no difference pricewise, but my
insurer knows I have an aftermarket cooler, aftermarket exhaust system, not
just an end can, upgraded suspension. Hell, I even declared my stubby front
brake lever, fitted to cope with my spazz hand.
One reason for declaring stuff like that is that in the event of my bike
getting stolen, or me getting twatted off, hopefully the payout will cover
    the mods.
Another reason is if you don't declare, and you get caught out, they've got
a get out clause. Don't give them one.

  6. This has to be close to the most tedious thread on ukrm in a long time.

    Well done all.

It's not as if it hasn't been done to death in the recent past so
there's no excuse. The only way it could have been worse was if there
was some kind of a feminist angle so we could post multiple links
    explaining everything.

Rubbish. The interminable threads on mobile phones knock it into a
    cocked hat.
