All of a sudden lots more Ooomph!

    Sound like a diesel to me: compresses air only and then the injection system
    delivers fuel directly to the combustion chamber at roughly the same point
    in the cycle that a petrol engine would fire the spark plug.

    Yes, with the new Bosch Direct injection that is what's happening. I believe
    BMW is using that on their new Petrol cars as well.
