    Looks very nice.
What do you reckon it's worth , and what do you reckon it'll finish the
    bidding on?

I think it was the hottest version, with different cylinder heads.
Styling was sort of mdiway between the old square RDs and the first
    (curvaceous) LCs.

That is so nice. <Considers Xmas bonus> I might have a punt myself.
Reckon it's set at a reserve of £2k at least, mind. Maybe £2.5k

Nice that they couldn't be bothered to take it off the centrestand to turn
    it round!

    See below
The Daytona Special- known as the RD400F or G in USA - isn't a hotter
version at all, in fact it's a bit slower than a UK spec one. The softer
porting, emissions control butterflies on the exhaust downpipes and
different carbs meant power was a bit down on our version. I just love
the styling and the rarity value of them.

If money was no object I'd search out a Canadian spec RD400G, which was
styled exactly the same as the Daytona Special but had just 400 on the
sidepanels and no red stripes, but was blessed with the full power
    engine the UK got.
I reckon more like £1800 to £2000 at this time of year.

I don't think it will go for any more than £2000

Do you think we know the "Irish" collector that has allegedly underwritten
    it for £1800?

    Better.

Just as well I pointed that out, eh? Xmas morning could have been a
    *major* disappointment.
