All hail the mighty CG125!

A mate... petrolhead, into fast cars etc., was suitably impressed by the
lift I gave him on the Fazer a few weeks ago, to want one himself.

However, he's not 21 until July, and wanted something to get him to work
now, not after then... given he wants to do DAS, and not piss about with the
33bhp licence, our thoughts turned to 125s.

TZR125 was the main recommendation of mine, given I'd had a few in the past,
and they'd been good for what they were... however... everything we'd looked
at on ebay etc., was of decidedly sheddy quality, and going for way too much
money, given the state of them.

They've had their day, basically... there's only so many teenage oiks a bike
will put up with being abused by, before they need major cosmetic and
mechanical surgery, after all, and the cost of buying and sorting one out
properly, outweighs the benefits, given how long he intends to stick with a
    provisional licence.

Went and checked out an RG125 Wolf earlier... shedlike, and not as quick as
one might expect for something advertised as 'derestricted', we walked away.

In the local rag, we then found this: 51 reg CG125, 6 months MOT and tax,
    £550 ovno.

I thought given it had been in there since mid week, and the price, it would
be gone by now, but no, it was still there, and someone else had arranged to
    view this evening.

Metallic red, it is... not mint, but no shed - import, so the sidelights are
always on, and KM/H speedo with 13k recorded on it.

£500 later, it was his... and I got the task of riding it home.

Heh, bloody good fun - managed to get it right off the clock at one point,
and said mate reckoned it was doing just under 80 at one point.

I think we've done well - it needs nothing, bar an oil change really, and I
reckon he'll easily get his money back on it, post DAS later on this year.

Fast cars still get stuck in traffic. heh..

Well... Mine does a GPS 72mph, which is about 83 mph on the clock. So
they're really designed for learners. ;)

They are bloody good fun too, I think I'll invest in a pair of Michelin
    M45s, a 275S18 for the front and a 300S18 for the back. They're good,
and mean that I never have any chicken strips on the CG. :)
That and a valve check plus a new plug takes about 10 minutes, with a
chain lube and adjust 15 minutes. :)

Aye, but the last one he had was almost as quick as my last CBR600, in a
straight line, when the road was clear in front of us.
Aye, and you certainly learn the art of planning your immediate route, with
    that little braking power. ;-)
I believe this one is shod with Pirellis of some description... I can't get
my knee down on the Fazer, never mind this.
I are be fettling it in the next couple of days, in preparation for him
getting his CBT done and dusted.

I'd have one of these, in the face of every 90s sports 125 out there,
seemingly fecked, and still commanding silly money.

That, and these are actually much more fun to ride than their appearance and
    spec first suggests.

SOBs are where it's at, brother... especially when all you want is piss
cheap wheels to enjoy rather than loathe, the journey to work, and not be
too worried about someone walking off with your bike whilst there.

    petrolcan fumbled, fiddled and fingered:
The CG125 and the C90 are possibly the two of the best bikes Honda have
    ever produced.

    I wouldn't.

I have ridden 2 125s in my life. One to get my CBT and the other (a CG)
because I couldn't be arsed walking a few hundred yards.

A mate of mine had a CG125 which he used as his winter bike. Lasted for
years. It even survived a journey from his work to his house with no oil in
the sump, as we found out when he pulled up and the engine was glowing like
a good un. We let it cool down loads of tick-tick noises before putting a
new sump plug in and refilling it with oil. It ran just as before, no
rattles no nothing for the next two years when he sold it on. Bullet proof.
Worked a lot better than my winter bike, a CZ175 <hides>

Cars just don't do it for me, they're good for taking things that you
can't fit on a bike and that's all, imho.
It's still a buz, getting that corner just right or just nailing it
through a roundabouts. You can go most places flat out if you're going
from town to town, it can be a real hoot on the right roads.
If you try to get your knee down on a CG, the first thing to touch down
is a foot rest, then you fall off. :)
    Good man.

  16. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Steve Parry amazed us all with this pearl of
    wisdom:
I had a right laugh on my C90 when I had it.

My girlfriend at the time called it a "fairy cycle".

    Bless.
