I'm clinging on to some old A-Wires with -5 lenses since Oakley no
longer seem to do anything strong enough for my prescription (my worst
eye is -6 and the Oakley range only goes to -4)

    Bastards.

    Lucky sod.

Just spent ?250 on rimless frames and ?280 having them glazed.

Both top end items - but I'm still struggling with the concept of the
less frame there is the more you pay.

See, I don't mind paying for the Flexon and Nikon gear, I know it's Top Dog.
But what people pay for "Designer Label" stuff which has no great technical
    superiority makes me laugh.

The Oakleys are so good, I'm going to get a non-prescription pair for
    when I'm wearing contacts.

I started taking them off to read in 1954 - how much older should I get
before I can dispense with them altogether?

They're about 150 quid for frames with standard plutonite lenses. It
costs another 200 quid or so to have prescription lenses put in though
you do at least get to keep the originals (as if they'd be much use).

I think I paid around that. One pair of half-rimmed high quality
varifocals and some lower quality Oakley varifocal sunglasses.

Where were you getting them at that price?

My current Oakley specs were about 280 EUR and that's with pretty basic
lenses. But, I got 90% back so that's OK.

I've applied for a visa to settle, but it's drifting further away all

They certainly do things differently there. It sometimes feels like a
far place about which the world knows little and cares less.

Not a small place then. Well, not that big, but not tiny IYSWIM.
Nice. They have a decent throughput to get the lenses and frames in for that
    price then.

No I don't mean that, I mean they use subterfuge amongst themselves.

An example would be when the various suppliers (and especially their
credit-controllers) get together to arrange how they will maintain
"an orderly market-place". The [ab]use of credit limits is a common
supplier's ploy to deny supplies to a price-cutter.

At least, the above is true in the retail trade that I used to be
involved in; I admit that I have no direct knowledge of the specs trade.
