Add salt and it works even better. (H + Cl ions in the solution.)

Are you telling me that Golden Wonder's finest are dipped in cleaning
    fluid?

  4. Normally I am trying to get any salt residue off of the bits, so maybe
that is the way it works.

Mine TAAAW, but (just looked outside without them, and it's boodly
snowing again) but I will have to get some reading glasses 'cos I have
to nearly stick me chin vertically to read this 'orrid little screen on
    the Eee.

Either that, or get another plunge-in TFT unit.

    More'n likely.

Certainly potent thobut - it even makes old decanters with otherwise
    immovable winestains sparkle again.

I really wouldn't have thought that rework of any serious nature would
    be worth it

my varifocals with reactolite and anti scratch coating in memory metal
frames cost £100. I can't believe that the lenses can cost more than £20
    each.

Trade price for a decent (Kodak) non vari lense is £40 to £50.

(bloke over the path from my work runs Midas Eyewear, makes glasses and does
them for friends at trade price)

Lucky fuckers. Over here, decent or specific lens type glasses can be anything
from €400 up. The only saving grace is that the SecSocial and Mutuelles
    reimburse.

I think my last glasses bill was in the order for 350+, admittely for
more than one pair. But that was already after taking advantage of
    various 2-for-1 offers.

No, that's what Kodak said. I've seen the trade price lists.
Did I say the lowest price for the cheapest lense is £40 to £50?

    No.

As with everything you can pay peanuts or pay for quality and get thinner,
    lighter, better optical quality lenses.

I've just had to buy prescription reading glasses: £25 plus £15 for
anti-scratch coating. It's terrible living in rip-off Britain.

If I wanted to, I could get a set from Specsavers for 30 quid. Since
they're going to be part of my physical appearance 16 hours a day, I
don't particularly mind paying the extra.

Works for me - had half a dozen pairs from them now and Mrs H has had
    some, too.

Usually takes about 7-10 days from ordering to receiving them.

I wouldn't like to buy at a distance, especially with varifocals

Oh, I wouldn't use them for old gimmer varifocals, but for relatively
low power distance lenses, they're fine, IME.

Ah, I think I see why your wifes glasses were so cheap. Do they have LIDL
across the middle of the lenses?

Generic lenses are cheap. Generic lenses with some additional grinding
for astigmatism and such are a bit more expensive. However, lenses
for people with really bad eyesight are eye-wateringly expensive.

Luckily for me I can still do with generic lenses. As long as my
eyes don't get any worse. :)
