I had a flat battery the other week due to no use over the silly season and
    the Aldi GPS.
I blame the Adli GPS as this was the only device that was connected to the
battery except for heated hand grips that were switched off and go through
    a relay.
My guess was the GPS was charging the internal battery.
The internal battery has never been able to hold enough charge to use
    without the cradle so...
My fix was to take the internal battery out so there was nothing to charge!
This was easy to do but...
I found out GPS needs the internal battery so if I am unable to find one
that will hold a charge I will have to put the old one back in. (Unit still
worked but was unable to access GPS area or clock).

While I had the GPS apart I noticed a marked "speaker out" connection on
the board that would be very easy to utilise should one be inclined.

I also use my GPS as a helmet holder when I am not riding.
This resulted in the support for the cradle breaking.
An easy fix was the Tomtom Ram Mount made by Ram Mount and a very fast ozzy
    distributer is http://www.gpsoz.com.au

The GPS prolly ships with factory-installed Stuxnet-DR650 virus. It
will deliberately take you via certain routes that require clutch
disengage/engage operations at a frequency that the Suzy DR650 clutch
cable is sometimes known to fail at. Every 28 days it will drain your
    battery.

    Funny you should write that...
I have been directed onto some great roads by the Aldi GPS.
I have been surprised by how many fire trails and tracks it has in its
    brain.

Mine works real welel except for in one of the views it tries to take me
around roundabouts the wrong way as if I was driving

on the right hand side of the road , just have to count the exits not
look at directions or dont use that facility.

    <snip>

Would it not have been easier to simply wire it into the ignition
circuit so that it only comes on and charges when the ignition is on?

The Tom Tom in my car charges only with the key on, but I can still use it
with the key off. This is _because_ it has a battery.

Yes. If I am unable to get a suitable replacement battery that is the plan

Did you miss the bit that describes the battery as not holding a charge or
are you already charged up for your birthday? :)

It's next Wednesday. Locally, we're having 200 people for breakfast, with
four barbies and five cooks, then a big party and fireworks in the evening.
