Anyone been there? Any good or horrendous shithole?
Located in a nice area with beautiful sea. By and large a windsurfers destination. i.e. windy. Has beaches, is hot[1], stuff to see in the area. If you get a good deal it should be alright. Stop for shopping in Izmir. [1] In summer. It is not summer yet.
Do you have GRIB reading software? You should do yourself a wind report before departure. That way you can plan your hangovers for a still day so as not to miss any sailing. I suspect probably not but you can't win them all eh. You may get some in burka swim wear. Dead sexy that is. They do try to keep them off the beach. Scares the tourists. Watch out for the all inclusive full board cheapies. Drinks are normally limited to locally made items[1] and they are often at the shit end of the range. Cola Turka is just so not coke. So you'll probably spend more on the drinkable things. Plan for this and it won't hack you off so much. If you like red wine Okuzgozu is good, kind of rich like Merlot but with a different charachter. Boazkere red is also a nice rich one with a very smooth finish. Anything labeled Kavaklidere will be good too. White wine is not really my forte Ace may help you out here. Beer - Efes it's the best choice. Get tins or bottles as line cleaning is a discipline which is unheard of in many bars. The other beers tend to be made in the Efes factory anyway. Should be a giggle. Enjoy. [1] Outrageous import taxes on alcohol.
I don't really do hangovers, especially not on that sort of holiday. Too much of a waste. Sounds dreadfull. Yuck. Never done one of those & hopefully never will. I don't drink white wine so that's not a problem. Hope so! Just gotta sell the remaining Tiger to (partially) pay for it.
On the one hand, Corralejo is a festering hole. On the other, there are off-roading opportunities from Caleta de Fuste.
Not a bad idea to take a couple of bottles of duty free Jack Daniels/ Jim Beam and sell them to a bar of your choice for what you paid for them. You will be well looked after as a result.
Dunno which part you went to, but I really like the old part of Corralejo. There's some cracking restaurants around the harbour, the house band in the Rock Cafe are excellent, & Flag Beach is the dog's danglies for water sports.
Oh, yeah, the harbour bit's alright, so long as you stay in sight of the sea, but the rest of the town proper is dismal. The Rock Cafe and Cerveceria San Miguel (next door to each other on the main road) are alright for a single visit, as is the Imagine bar if you catch the right night. But other than that it's a typical spanish tourist hole. I livened things up by dragging V to awful, awful places like the Golden Days 60s & 70s bar (Sabi's music quiz, not to be missed). Best night ever.
Well, I already know that Preston doesn't drink it, but there's some pretty decent stuff there too. Kavaklidere whites are as good as their reds, and... you know what? I can't remember a single other brand/label. Brain rot, clearly, from drinking too much of the stuff. We won't be coming out your way this year - staying a bit closer to home this time, two weeks sailing off the Sardinian coast should be a laugh, and hopefully not quite as hot.
A lot, maybe most, of the imported spirits sold in bars in the tourist areas of Turkey come from the tourists themselves or from other dodgy sources. They are then decanted into a duty paid bottle so as to satisfy the taxman. Standard practice and no danger to you.
It hit over 28C here[1] today. [1] In the office, that is; aircon's broken[2]. Again. ( [2] Which is a bit shit for a company that produces HVAC systems.
Especially cooped up in a boat cabin, with no wind and a shitload of mossies around. Was around 40C for the first week last time, IIRC. 28 here yesterday - today's a little cooler, I think, but still mid 20s at least.
Heh. Our office isn't allowed to have A/C, some Swiss green regs. When it gets really hot in the summer it can start out at around 30C in the morning, given that Security come round and close all the windows and doors overnight. During the day that can rise to the high 30s.
