Akrapovic end can on 2003 R6

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Matt E Mulsion, Jan 20, 2004.

  1. I am thinking of buying an Akrapovic end can for my 2003 model R6.
What do you people on here reckon to the Akrapovic exhausts? I have
heard a number of good reports about Akrapovic products and this is
why I am mainly drawn to one of theirs. So I suppose what I really
want to know is whether this will be a good idea or whether there is a
better end can out there that would suit my bike even more than the
    Akrapovic?

I disagree, the build quality knocks the likes of Micron, and especially
ART, into a cocked hat. Properly developed and made imo.

I managed to score a barely used one for my CBR6 last year for £160.

I've seen a definite improvement in the mid-range performance of the
bike and rather bizarrely, my fuel consumption figures have improved
by some 15% without any technical jiggery pokery.

From an aesthetic point of view the can looks lovely (1), sounds
wonderful (2) and, so far, seems to be weathering the weekly salt
    deposits well.

Go on, be a devil ;)

    1) titanium oval
    2) lovely deep note at low revs (inoffensive) but screams beautifully
    when you give it beans.

I didn't say they weren't the DB, only need to see how many top race teams
    use them.

In that case not overpriced. Quality costs, just ask Cane.

    OK I'll be more precise.
    # Hugely overpriced on a roadgoing R6 if it's going to get dirty and 5bhp
    extra won't be noticed much.
Buy 2 Scorpions, yer gonna need that spare eventually....

Of course I want 1 2 but I choke on the cost of these and dem tri-oval
    carbon Yoshi's

Eeeeeeeeeeuch, and I thought it was due to some strange reaction
between the FS 365 and road muck! I'll be wearing rubber gloves when
    I next wash the bike.

Not as yet, hopefully by the weekend.

I asked Ollie if he would mind you coming over to play, to which he
replied 'is he a little boy?' ... wasn't entirely sure how to answer
so I made do with 'not exactly' :)

Got one on my 9R. Build quality is superb. There are so many tat
options available but I always said I wasnt going to have a new pipe
on there that looked less well built than the original. Also (on mine
at least) the sound isnt too bad if you keep the revs down so you can
    be quite inconspicuous with it.

  18. So then, judging by the posts, the Akrapovic gets the thumbs up. I
assume it will be fine to just slip it on the bike, ie it will be okay
without needing to have it remapped or a power commander fitted etc.
I also assume that I shouldn't let the Yamaha dealer see it as the
bike is only 3 and a bit months old and I don't want them quibbling
about any possible warranty issues in the future.

UCAS managed to lose my application despite it being sent with some 15
others in mid-december. I only found this out 2 days before the
cut-off date of 15th January. Panic ensued but my exceptionally
wonderful tutor made calls to ensure that I wouldn't be noted down as
a late applicant, then we had to submit it electronically (which was
tortuous) ... got my confirmation on Monday that everything has now
been processed and my details have been passed to the relevant
    universities.

All I have to do now is wait to be called for interviews... <bites
    nails nervously>
