Did anyone record this episode, either on DVD or tape? I'm an airship
addict and I missed this one, dammit.

I have it on the sky box and could copy to tape, assuming I can find a
    tape...

Thanks, Ginge. Really appreciated. Do you need my address or do you
still have it from previous French Run stuff?

If you can wait until after next Sunday, I can put all three programs
    on one DVD for you.

No! Isn't it DVDs that will steal TOG's soul? (or is that
    amazon.com?)

well, you can easily tell by looking at him that he won't have a mirror
    in the house...

I'd love that as well, yes please. Our VCR is on the blink atm, and
this is something I really want to keep, so much appreciated as well.

I've always been a total airship nut. I'd have loved to have made a
flight on the R100 or Hindenburg. One of the blokes in that TV
programme, Douglas Botting, wrote Dr Eckener's Dream Machine, about
Hugo Eckener, the airchip king in the Zeppelins' glory days.

Fabulous book. Remarkable man, as well: a really extraordinary bloke.

You are lucky I fell asleep halfway through watching the recording of
the first program else it would have been long gone.

Nah, that'd only apply to the R101

    "Oh, the humanity!"

    Well, no ;-)

Hindenburg managed a season of service before it went pop. R101, of
course, went pop on maiden flight. R100 never went pop at all.

  14. That was the Hingerbrug.

The R101 was more, "Oh, Bollocks!"

  15. More people died on the R101 than the Hindenburg, though. Only a handful
of survivors. Amazingly, two-thirds of the people on the H survived.

When the R101 crashed, most people were asleep in their cabins. The only
survivors, bar one, were from the engine gondolas.

On the H, most passengers owed their lives to the fact that they were
assembled in the lounges, watching the landing and mooring preparations,
and the quick-wittedness of the captain, who realised that letting the
thing come down to earth as fast as possible was the best chance of
    getting people out.

The first house I lived in as a baby was 25 Lancaster Road, Shortstown
[1], the place where the R100 and R101 were based. A couple of my mates
live there now in one-time married quarters that have been sold off.
One of them has bought my grandad's old house.

[1] Latterly known as 207MU RAF Cardington.
