    I need the bolts/bushings for the centerstand that'll fit a '78 R80/7.

If this shot in the dark might happen to hit a bullseye, please let me
    know asap!

  2. I just bought bushings for my '88 from Cal BMW for under $10.
About 4-5 days wait for delivery. If you haven't yet tried your
    dealer, give it a shot.

BMW is never cheap, but damn do they do a good job of
    keeping spares available.

Long distance, you can probably buy from A & S or
    Chicago BMW.

In any case do NOT go to San Jose BMW, unless you really enjoy getting
    hosed.

  4. I've dealt with San Jose BMW many, many times and
have no complaints about any parts problems. What
    was your experience ?

In the south bay, I've dealt with Beemershop in Scotts
Valley, Cal BMW, San Jose BMW and less frequently,
    Santa Cruz BMW.

I currently buy mostly Beemershop and Cal, but would
not hesitate to order parts from any of them.

I have been severely overcharged for parts that I have purchased. I
later went to Cal BMW and compared prices. Several items were half the
    price or less!
Cal BMW uses BMW suggested list price.
I think that San Jose adds a significant mark-up on small parts. I was
charged over $20.00 for 2 small clips and 2 small o-rings that would
have cost less than $8.00 at Cal BMW.

  6. Best online parts prices I know of are at Chicago BMW.

    http://www.chicagobmwmotorcycle.com/

I generally buy locally but it's always nice to check prices
online. Last purchase from Chicago was a set of heilcal
gears for many dollars when the tranny packed in at
    137,000 miles.

  8. The missing circlip problem. Also ridden through too
many creeks. I could have greatly minimized the
damage if I'd parked it the minute I thought I had a
problem rather than riding while I tried to figure
    the problem out.

Latest in my own tale of woe, a crapped out exhaust valve,
a hairline crack in one piston below the gudgeon pin and
some badly worn nikasil barrels. Whole thing is sitting
torn down while I try to locate a set of jugs and slugs,
possibly with heads to go with them.

    Any used parts leads appreciated.

  10. Currently waiting on a set of 8:1 '83 RS flat top
pistons as at least a temporary replacement for
the cracked 8.2:1 '88 piston. The nikasil barrels
show some wear but should be OK for a while.

Now all I need is to wait for a good lightning
storm and I'll summon Igor to my laboratory
in the castle dungeon to help me reassemble
    the bits and pieces.
    Thanks
