Air Shocks

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by ROBERT MILLER, Jan 29, 2006.

  1. What would take to put air adjust type shocks on rear of a 82 Honda 450
Custom? Like what is on the 900 custom.

  2. I rode a cb900 for awhile. I own more than one bike. looking at another.
But i love my little 450 custom. I ride it the most. Its got the power to
hual weight easy. Just the shooks dont, they need a little help.

  3. If I wanted to improve the handling of an old 450, I'd just seek out a
good pair of aftermarket shocks designed for that bike's weight.

  4. Yes, but a pair of shocks designed for a 500lbs+ motorcycle aren't going
to suit one weighing 100lbs less.

  5. Handels fine couldnt ask for beter. Just the load carrying. They bottom
time too time. Not alot. Maybe change the spring, dont want it to hard. Or
    a rubber bushing?

You might be able to get away with just preloading the stock springs a
bit, or you can change the spring itself, installing a spring with a
higher rate in terms of pounds per inch of compression.

If you google up "spring rate calculator" you can find out how to
measure your current springs and calculate what rate springs to
    install.

www.racetech.com *might* have some aftermarket springs for your
    machine, but I doubt it.
