Air beds

Seeing as I'm not an avid camper and like some comfort, I'm looking for
    an airbed of some description.

My choices seem to be a conventional pump up bed, or one of these self
    inflating jobbies.

    Any relevant comments or experience?
Either way, it needs to pack down well enough to be bungeed onto the
Tig, and be reasonably light, too.

    TIA

I bought a self inflater from Millets for BOSM, but it was shite, so SWMBO
took it back and got me one from Halfords, which was actually quite
    comfortable.

    I've got both.
The blow-up type's are normally quite heavy (good quality ones anyways)
whereas the self inflating ones are quite light. You'll also need to carry
some sort of pump with the fully inflatable types as blowing it fair shags
yer lungs out! The self inflating type, is really just a bit of sponge that
you compress when you roll the fecking thing up when packing away. Unrolling
it and leaving it expand for while kinda sucks air in, though not really
enuff, still needs a few good huff's in it to get it half comfortable.
If you're after comfort, and can bear the weight, a fully inflatable rocks.

Argos have an offer on at the moment - half price pump with the airbed
    £13.98 for the set.

**** knows what its like. You've got 16 days to take it back if it
    does not suit.

I've not owned an airbed for yonks but I've seen one advertised on the
telly. It's one of the many JML products. I'm tempted myself as my bed's
    fucked and it's only 30 quid ;-)

It's got a velour texture to it which will prolly wear off after two
weeks but it comes with it's own air pump and according to the gumpf on
the telly, it'll inflate in less than two minutes :)

Got the jml air bed you mention, was something like 30 quid from makro, used
    it once

not that impressed with it, it's real light weight.. as in the stuff it's
made out of is thinner than the plastic they make those kids inflatable
dingy's with, it's actually fairly heavy when rolled up, but it does roll up
    pretty small,

it does pump up very fast mind, but it's a mains pump, so not that usefull
for camping, tho i did buy a 12 volt version of the exact pump for 8 quid
    from a camping store,

however first time we ever used the air bed was the last, bloody thing kept
going down durning the night.. not much, but enough to annoy you if your
back is sensative to things like that,

it may have a pin prick hole in it.. there is a self stick puncture repair
patch with it tho.. but how they expect you to find the leak i dont know, i
havent got a handy swimming pool to sit it in to look for air bubbles.

We got the Argos job, double in rubberised canvas. Bought a hairdryer
style pump, ripped off the fag lighter attachment and use the bike
battery (engine running) to run it with wires to terminals. It's not a
light airbed but we're not light people and it does us for weekends camping.
We tried the plasticy velour one and the velour made our doss bags stick
    and was rather uncomfortable TBH.
Your choice depends how fit (for footpump) or heavy (for strength of
    bed) you are...

  10. They are the best - expensive, but brilliant.
