Brake pads are supposed to have something stuck to the metal, right?

And the metal bits are not supposed to be worn away through contact with
    the disk, right?

    Oops.

    It's ok, it's a KAWASAKI voyager.

Bang out the air-brakes, presuming you haven't bolted a towel rail over the
    top of them.

Tried that. The emergency backup alternator just kicked in. It has its
own engine (a Gpz900R lump, mounted under one of the panniers), so it
    didn't help.

    Sounded nice though.

Supposedly. I've never found the need for such frippery, myself. My
old ones that were commented on two MoTs running were fine(1). The
    new ones are shite(2).
As long as it is only the rectangular metal bits, that's only to be
expected. If you've got down to the cylindrical bits you're doing
    very well indeed.
Time to throw out the sprag, old boy.

    1. At stopping the bike - getting them far enough out to make contact
was a bit of a task, it must be said.
    2. They stop the bike fine from low and medium speeds, but when
approaching a bend at full tonk and heaving on the lever - well, just
don't expect to be thrown forwards by the sudden deceleration, that's
    all.
