Ah well, so much for Blighty then.

just to be sure - we're talking about the crap little foil-covered
tray of lukewarm chicken in a bland tomato sauce, with over cooked
potatoes and 4 peas, with a hard roll and tiny bottle of wine type
    meals here?

I've never had food like that on a plane - agree on the wine though.

Actually, BA on their flight to Washington DC (the one that keeps getting
cancelled) serve an entirely reasonable chicken korma, complete with
mini-naan; and the business class "fried" breakfast is always welcome,
especially on a champagne and G+T induced hangover

I've had that very meal, although on the way to Boston, it's certainly
one of the best airline meals I've eaten.

United Airlines is a different story, very nasty indeed, particularly
the breakfast hot croissant-thing and the teatime varnished roll
containing "ham" and "cheese". And just two weeks until I have to
    experience them again... <shudder>.

Alitalia's breakfast in Business Class Linate to Schipol is good.

  7. Well yes business class is pretty good. The steak on my BA flight to
    Hong Kong was rather splendid.

First Class on Cathay Pacific is something else though (Hong Kong to
Tokyo when they upgraded me from business to first). Probably my best
ever flight so far as facilities / comfort is concerned.

  9. Some is okay. I don't much like fish, but the gravlax handed out on a BA
flight into Sola a few years ago was very acceptable, especially when washed
down with champagne. IIRC airlines have some difficulty getting a wine that
    tastes okay at altitude.

I think the airline is the most important thing - BA bad, Lufthansa
    and Air France good (IME).

Business class is better but it all tastes like shit.
I've never had the chance to try First Class. The best meal I ever had
on a plane was Air France Nice - Heathrow business class. It truly was
as good as a restaurant. Even the bread was good, which is usually a
    big let down.

Hmm, strange. IME Air France is shit and well overpriced. e.g. A trip,
in class eco I'm due to take from Paris to Athens, is going to set
back the company £1000. The only 'benefit' of the ticket, is that it's
    changeable.

Also, I've found BA to be fairly good. Mind you, the last time I took
a BA flight was over 5 years ago.

Emirates Airlines, IMO, was the best I've taken to date.

  13. Some of the best food I've had on a plane was Air France. It was superb.
The worst food I have ever had on a plane was Air France. It was so bad
I refused to eat it demanded a different meal. Then most of the people
    around me did the same.

A lot of airlines allow you to change arrangements for a nominal fee
anyhow with a day's notice.. I've just booked flights to Bangalore using
the cheapest route from Birmingham, the fee to change my schedule is
    £75.

By rights I could demand to fly business class as it's over 8 hours, and
that's where the cutover is on company policy.. But as I'm not going
the lowest cost route (i.e. from heathrow) I think it's a fair
    compromise for both sides.

I'd go with that. I took a short hop in an air france plane recently
