Advice regarding becoming...

Well... in other roles in the past, I've enjoyed it when I've been training
others (mainly in structured programming). In fact it was suggested a while
back I train to become a teacher, but I'd probably end up in some
'improving' secondary and up on a Burberry related assault charge!

The one main difference with becoming a teacher of sorts in a bike training
rather than educational capacity, is you've got an audience that is there
because it wants to be there, and not because it has to be.

Not only that, they've paid a fair amount of money for the privilege of your
time... so whilst I'm sure you'll get a few pisstaking twats who really
don't want to be there but are in need of a CBT in order to become a fully
legal 'scootay riding mo'fo', (SHAMONE!), anyone on one of the advanced or
bike test courses will be looking to get as much as possible out of their
time with you... and at worst, you've only got to spend a week of your
    working life with them.

No, the more I think about it, the more I want to do it.

Anyway, I'm going to pay a visit to the school I did my test at this week,
and see how the land lies there - I got the impression last time I was there
that they had an fair sized queue of people looking to become instructors,
    but it's worth a looksee.
    Big bucks

Ah... Maxima covers a multitude of sins in the Nissan hierarchy unless I'm
mistaken, at least if it's a non UK spec model.

    Are we talking QX stylee?

That's actually one reason I never became a teacher, I don't think you
can/should force people to learn things. Or rather if you force them
    they don't learn very well.
In that case, best of luck to you.
    Yeah, I know. Probably a pipe-dream.

Agreed... and whilst it is for the good of all concerned if they can read,
write, and be able to work out if they've got enough money in their pocket
for that last can of Special Brew, schooling, at least pre 16 is pretty
    inflexible.

Or at least it was in my day... I'm 31, and feel so old! Going to my old
secondary a few weeks back, and listening to the same Headmaster as when I
was there, rambling on about the fresh intakes (of which my son is one of
this September) induction, hasn't helped in this respect!

Anyway... some people simply aren't academic, they end up frustrated by what
the system says they must study - it doesn't mean they are dense either,
it's more than likely they've got other talents they can't develop as part
    of their schooling.

I'm aware that they now let some of the more 'challenging' pupils go off and
do weekly work experience from 14 onwards, or at least they do here - a good
idea in principal, at least if it's open to all, not just those who are a
pain in the arse in class.
    Cheers, and to you.
You'd be coming from another 'profession', rather than McDonalds etc., so I
think it will probably be more a lack of money in the interim, rather than
not being able to get a foot in the door that you need to consider.

    It's non UK spec
That's the kind of thing, yeah. It's a 3.0 petrol, auto. It has a
button on the key fob which opens the boot. I love that.

My cousin did this, even after university you'll serve a few years in
training on 'not great' money. She's starting to enjoy it now though.

Yeah, I know. Basically, I'd need to go back to uni full time to get
the degree, then do professional training and exams, probably for
    another couple of years.

Unless we get to a position where Anya can support us both, I don't
    think it's going to happen.

In a complete contrast to your arechetectural leanings, after years of
making IT projects work, I've got a slight urge to work on large-scale
    demolition. [1]

But I'm not sure how one qualifies.

[1] The blowing up chimneys, blocks of flats, etc. kind. (ideally with
    permission <g>)
