How about doing something like a City and Guilds/BTEC/NVQ in
electrical engineering then? Sounds like you'd have a good head
    start.

before minimum wage, it wasn't uncommon for jobs with high levels of
hobbyist staff to have extremely low pay. people basically do it for
fun, so any financial reward is a bonus. a comic shop i used to
frequent in the 80s used to pay its saturday staff in comics.

Oh yeah... I actually didn't mind the stuff like "Can you pop up to
Blackpool" (1) last thing on a Friday night - in fact I probably preferred
the runs like that because I ended up with a totally clear run most of the
time, that paid enough so that if I didn't want to work the rest of the
    week, I didn't have to.

It was the crap stuff that when you took off your fuel money, thanks to the
rush hour etc., you'd end up with less than minimum wage on some of the
    shorter local runs etc.

Then there was the constant wear on the car / van, and the continually
thinking 'I've done really well this week' when working out how much the
firm owed me, only to have to spend so much of it having the motor patched
    up.

Nope, glad I'm out of that now - I ended up on prescribed mind benders after
    the last stint I did.

    Excellent!

    Will do.

And this brings another point up - does anyone know why it now is that
points, whilst still only active for three years on a licence, cannot be
    removed for another year?

Doesn't make much sense to me.

I was sure I got the three I had years ago off as soon as they were three
years old, but you're probably right.

Still doesn't make any sense to me why they can't come off as soon as
they've expired, rather than a year later, mind.

Makes no sense to me either, and what really pisses me off is inscos
wanting to know about convictions within the last 5 years. If it's good
enough for the govt to have forgotten about them, then why can't it be
    good enough for an insco?

I may look into it, but to be quite frank for once I'd like to, if at all
possible, get into something that I'd enjoy doing.

If we were going by paperwork, I'd have the best head start by heading back
into IT... but I'd rather not if I could avoid doing so.

Pipe organ building is quite interesting really... all the old churches
etc. - not everyones cup of tea I know, but I enjoyed stuff like that all
the same, and developed a disturbing taste for the music as well, at least
when the mood rarely takes me.

However, realistically you are probably right - build upon what I already
    have, not haven't, got.

    Cheers.

"Because they're money grabbing cunts overall, who will have the shirt off
your back if they can get away with it, using any piss poor excuse to load
    your premium up"

At least some of the more shit ones I've used have seemed that way.

No, I have a Nissan Maxima now. Absolutely soul-less, but the tyres
howl amusingly when I hoon around while drunk (last night, for example,
I utilised the handbrake as the primarily method of decelerating). It's
overdue for a service, actually; better book it in.

  19. Can't argue with that. Last week I earned an average of £4.65 before
expenses. I don't know why I do it either, it just seems a waste of all
    those thermals :)
Being a bit off the wall in the first instance helps a lot, too ;-)

Actually, I see nothing wrong with totally starting from scratch. I'm
likely to do just that myself[1] in a couple of years because I'm
getting sick of IT. Just IME turning your hobby into a job removes
    all enjoyment of the hobby.

[1] Quite fancy training to become an architect but that will take a
    fair while.
