    Quite.

I was really surprised at the prices of the range as a whole.

The used example I saw for sale, whilst only 6 or so months old had suffered
badly from the weather though, the black painted engine casing was in a bad
    way.

Nah, that's the on-the-road price, not the in-the-showroom price. It's
amazing how much they depreciate if you actually ride 'em. ;-)

He was in DiRE a couple of months ago; problems with his gearbox mainly. He
needed new parts that just couldn't be supplied.

Eventually he was offered a full refund on the bike.

I'd love to try one. I think it'll be at the top of the list for the
    one after the GSXR.

I reckon Bike etc are also talking bollocks. If you look purely at
the stats then there is only a gnats hair in it between all of the top
litre bikes and nobody goes round saying a GSXR1000/Blade/R1 is too
    much.

    See my second post.

Asthmatic compared to a 1000 bike - not compared to other things.

I'm going to have a go on one when thew weather picks up. I don't think
I'll be buying one, but I definately want to see how silly they are.

From reading Bike's articles on it (and taking into account McWilliams
in this month's issue) I get the impression it's not so mujch down to
the stats, but the way the thing's been put together as a package.
Stupidly short wheelbase, typical kwak hard rear spering, and a front
end that doesn't quite seem to know where to point, all of which goes
to make something very very daft.

But it's a new bike, and they're journos, so it could all be hyperbole.

Asthmatic compared to a well designed 600, I would say. The battle
between the various sports 600s has led to the engines being
designed/tuned for top end to the near-exclusion of anything else. That
probably makes sense for a race bike but they'd make better road bikes
if they gave up some of that power and moved it down the rev-range a bit.

Then, if you want more power you do the sensible thing and get a bike with
    a bigger engine.

What utter tosh. Ride a thou for a while and your 600 will feel like a
    two-stroke in comparison.
So it'll pull like a rocket from 1000rpm in top gear, will it?

Actually, I thought the SV was more confidence inspiring in the corners
and the engine had better flexibility for getting out of corners
without having it spinning away near the redline. In those terms I
    thought it was faster.

However, that's just down to me being used to how the SV felt, and how
I rode it. Trying to do the same on a different bike won't give the
same results. Saying that, I'm starting to feel quite at home on the
955i and I don't think my riding style has changed that much. Perhaps
    I won't notice as it's a gradual thing.
