    Hi folks,

A mate has bought a CBR600F and has asked me for some advice. His words are
    as follows:

"Can you find out what is the best way to use chain wax and apply to the
chain of your bike. Having not done it before I would like to know the
right way to do it..things to watch out for etc. I do not have a centre
    stand on the bike. "

If anyone can offer a bit of advice (I have no relevant experience here) I
    would appreciate it.

    Cheers,

Just heat it until it's runny but not so hot it burns, then smear it on an
area a few inches square. Wait for it to cool and then rip off it one
smooth action. (You may have to use tweezers to pluck out any remaining
    hairs.)

That would be the shiny thing that you get tied up with when you need
    discipline......???

You've had three chain-drive bikes and have no relevant experience?

  7. Lean bike over on sidestand until back wheel is off the ground.

Use a Jack or a block of wood under the RHS of the swing arm or footpeg
    depending of wots easiest.

Rotate wheel by hand and spray between sprocket and bottom part of chain
onto rollers. I then put a small amount onto the sideplates. While doing
this I hold some rag under the chain to stop any going anywhere from the
    spray.

I then rotate the wheel a few times and wipe of any "globs" that are looking
    like they'll drip.

I oil mine every 300k's. Every 600k's I clean my chain with Kero and a nail
    brush.

When putting on Chain oil make sure chain is warm.

But then once applied don't ride until its cold.

The best chain lube IMHO is Motorex Racing.

They also make a protectant (smilar to silicone spray) that is good for
metal & rubber parts. I use this on my back rim. It protects the rim and
make it easier to get brake dust and residue chain stuff off.

Hehe - yes, excrement point indeed sir! I've never used chain wax - having
never really been too concerned about picking up crap on dirt roads (other
than on the many hundreds of kms of dirt/mud etc. that we've traversed...).

My question was more about the no centrestand thing - is this relevant to
the joys of waxing your chain lyrical?

Thanks big fella (hope you don't mind). As a reformed cyclist I have had
many women recommending a little waxing procedure on my once magnificent
legs. We'll just leave it at that.

I'll pass on your advice nonetheless.
