Just seen an add for Activ8 additive, it says it CAN be used on a wet clutch
    system, is this correct?

I've always been told to not add ANYTHING like that to the oil...

If it works, is it any good?

    You were told correctly.
The question is moot, as you don't need it.

Cerberus let forth with a mighty belch and uttered :
    Snake oil.

PB did an article on on an additive called ZXtra-lube(sp?) a few years ago.
The results of that means I will never put any stuff like that in any
    vehicle.

In one test, involving baking the oils, the treated oil was reduced to a
substance similar to treacle, whilst the untreated was still within grade.

In a friction test, the stock oil came out better. The additive was
    basically chlorinated paraffin.

I have never been able to find corroborated evidence that any of these oils
additives enable an oil to outperform the base material in any way at all.

I'd like Bike, PB or Ride to do an exhaustive test of these miracle
substances. For the teflon based ones, full service and oil change. Dyno
it. Change the oil and add the teflon guff. Dyno it. Ride for a couple of
thousand miles. Service, change the oil and dyno it. Ride for a couple of
thousand miles and get the metal examined for evidence that the teflon, or
whatever has actually bonded as per the claims on the pack.

Spectral analysis of the oil would also prove if there has been any
appreciable difference in the wear rate of the engine.

In short, keep your money in your wallet, change your oil regularly and use
whatever grade the manufacturer of your bike recommends.

Hope that helps. I will now don my flameproof pants as I'm shot down in
flames with a tumult of evidence supporting the claims of these additives.
BTW, I do not accept claims given on web sites connected to these products.

I appreciate all the responses, i think too much of my bike to just add
sommat like that without prior knowledge and you all seem to say the same
    thing!

You just saved me money as well as screwing my bike up, thanks

If it won't do diddly squat, what will it do? and what is diddly squat,
is it fun and does it really involve squatting? ITWSBT.

It vaguely rings a bell, but I wouldn't touch it. If your bike needed
it, don't you think the manufacturer would tell you to get some, or the
oil companies would've improved their oil to make more money instead of
some small additive company doing it?

Wasn't a test done on two fresh engines, and the one that had been
    slick-50'd came out worse?
