Action Motorcycles in the City

    Hey All,

Bought an '04 R1 from Action in the City late last year and got Yoshi
cans and a fender eliminator as well. Went for a run up the putty last
week and sat on about 160 - 170 most of the way up. On the way back my
fender eliminator deceided it had had enough and just broke off
completely and I lost my number plate, rego and indicators - nothing
was salvageable so I took the number plate back to the RTA and got a
    new one.

Went to Action and at first they said it wasn't under warranty and they
couldn't help me - so I asked for a list of other parts of the bike
that weren't covered so I would no in advance if they broke that they
we not covered and I could confirm those with Yamaha. Then they said
they would charge it to the workshop and come on in and they would
    replace everything.

Then when I arrived in the morning they said that I had to replace the
indicators myself, so I did I bought a new set then and there.

When I came back in the afternoon they wanted to charge me labour as
well, they never stated this in the morning and he wanted $177.00. He
had seen where it failed and it was a manufacturing fault. The company
that makes these agreed and said they would replace it free but Steve
from Action still wanted money for labour. Now he should chase the
manufacturer for that cash as it was a defect product. Instead I
couldn't leave until I gave him at least $100 as I couldn't get my keys
back. At the end of the day I find the guy just doesn't give a shit
about anything and everytime you go in there he does his best to get
some dollars off you for something. He has no personal skills and
can't fake being the slightest bit interested in bikes and their
riders. Honestly if I felt that this "Steve" guy was being sincere at
all or decent I would be happy to pay some dollars but I won't give
them any business again as I just can't stand the guy. Shame as the
guys in the workshop seem really decent and he such a f&*king moron...
    Give em a wide berth...

    This

Combined with Putty Rd references would indicate Sydney City to me.

    Doesn't take a rocket scientist.

Why didn't you just ask Action to ring the manufacturer of the warranty item
again and get them to give authorization for the labour cost over the phone?

Why dont you go to the Motor Traders association, Yamaha Australia and the
    manufacturer of device which failed?

ever thought that he is getting all the money from the other place and
trying to get it off you as well..

pricks like that have no business in bikes in my opinion,

anyone ive found are like that ive voted with my feet, some are just money
grabbing pricks who just dont care.

example 1, I went to a grand opening sale of a bike place that just moved,
50% off all products (except bikes)

I found a nice Rjays back pack, I asked a sales man how much it was, he said
the RRP was $19.95 as confirmed with the add I saw in a bike magazine, RRP
$19.95. The sales man said and it was half of that for the sale.

    I said beauty

went to the front desk with he boss to pay for it.

I got my atm card out ran it through while he bagged it up

as I was just about to put my pin in, I saw the price $40 on the machine.

I said, why are you charging me $40, I was just told it was half price of 10
    bucks.

then he tried to tell me that I had already purchased it and refused to even
give me my atm card back until I put my pin number in.

Which I refused and asked him if he was planning on robbing me, if he
refused to give me back my atm card and told me to enter my pin.

since I had not purchased the bag, I was told a different price, and you are
seeling something for 80 bucks with a rrp of 20 bucks. When I threatened to
call the Police as I felt he was forcing me to with draw money from my bank
account against my will. When I also stated that I was an out of state
police officer my self he gave me my card back surprisingly.

I then made very loud comments to him about what he had just done, with
their grand opening sale and a show room full of people and left. Never
    retuning their again.

    example 2

I brought a 50cc scooter for my now fiancee for 800 bucks, it was in good
condition, I was told it had just been over the work shop and was given a
    100% bill of health.

I rode it home and the gear box fell out of it.

1 hour after sale it was dead, my girl friend was in tears. I rang the bike
shop and they said, sorry and hanged up on me

I then rang the department of fair trade

motorvehicles under 5 years old 3 month warrantee
motorvehicles over 5 years old 1 month warrantee

I called them again, which after a brief discussion about having their motor
traders licence removed, they agreed to fix it and told us they replaced it
    witha brand new box.

I also checked the bike over, and found it was in a good condition now,
replaced lots of bits on it to make it perfect.

then 3 months later, she was living with her parents at the time, the bike
    suddenly wouldn't go above 30kph.

I was a few thousand k's away from her and said to take it in for them to
    look at it,

she was told it was beyond repair, but they would buy it off her for 150
bucks, as they wanted the parts.

now a brand new 3 month old gear box shouldn't break should it? unless they
did a very dodgy job, then decided to swindle a young woman telling her that
it cant be fixed, and isnt worth anything.

since I couldn't see the bike, even though one very similar they said was
repaired with the old bikes fairing was on the lot now.

1 town in Queensland, 2 bike shops...

pity the poor people who live their. since itonly has 3 bike shops

dont be swindled, stand up for your self, threaten to take them to court,

department of fair trading, does it all for you
    motor vehicles association regulates them

dodgy people shouldn't be in business..

    Good luck, Nathan

ive noticed the bike shops out here dont sell tyre repair kits.

they sold me a few plugs, but i think they plug tyres to make money not sell
kits for ppl to do it them selves.

none of the bike shops in town sell them?

even a few hour saway they didnt..

He said 'Action'. Specific location is largely
irrelevant. I'm a total noob at this motorcycling
malarky, and even *I* know that Action are a
    bunch of walking-talking crooks.

(Mind you, in my recent travels in search of
a suitable Thunderarse, I found half a dozen
pigs of various ~average~ conditions priced at
circa $8000-$8500, and I found one total worthless
piece of shit (which is, for the record, still
there) at Action Motorcycles in Parramatta
priced at $10,000. I'm not claiming that any degree
of rocket science would go into working out that
Action were a bunch of crooks, even if I hadn't
    already been warned off them!)

Poor bastard must have been unlucky enough to
never meet anyone who knew to hate Action.

Fitting bolt-ons, especialy frivolous ones like fender eliminators, to a
brand-brand-new bike tells the shop you're someone who'd rather part
with money than undergo personal inconvenience; someone even remotely
shrewd buys a stock bike and kits it out with cheap secondhand stuff
snapped up from Ebay or the Trading Post. Your going "Uh, ok, then" and
buying brand-new indicators when they told you to only reinforced that
impression. From there on in, it was a case of milking the cow until its
    udder fell off.

Why the surprise that a retailer would do its utmost to get you to part
with your money? Your having recently given them a huge wad of money
would only indicate that you're only too willing to do that, so why
    expect favours.

This sort of thing is a sort of tax on people who don't know how to play
    the game.

Consider yourself taxed, and don't let it happen to you again.

  20. Yes! Someone that buys an '04 R1 would never travel to ride roads they have
    heard about.
