Reminder to any last minute stragglers, Oxley Run, saturday week. Those
who've already indicated interest have just been emailed.

OK, so. In the process of trying to book accomodation:

Friday night in Gloucester, there's two pubs, the Gloucester and the
Avon, I've been in both but I can't remember which is which - can anyone
    straighten me out* ?

Avon is cheaper than the gloucester by a couple of bucks a head - does
anyone know if there's much difference between them ?

Saturday in Walcha - there's a lawn bowls carnival on, so watch out for
the mobile chicanes ! The New England Hotel is mostly booked, any body
stayed at the commercial or the walcha motel - any comments ? Good bad
    indifferent ?

    *Yeah thanks Doug, but no.

Commercial at Walcha is great, publican let us park the bikes in the yard,
accomodation was good, beer was cold and plentiful.
At Gloucester, I can't remember which is which either, the one we stayed at
was on a roundabout at the end of town and had a motel attached to it. They
were in the process of doing up the pub and it was looking pretty good when
we were there. (about 6 months ago)

    Sorry cant be more specific.

Ah, well, that's the one I recommend then. Good accomodation,
good pub, good people. I remember the bike sheds too! Actually,
on that whole trip I don't think the bike spent a night on the
    street except for Sydney ...

I also remember fondly the ... well, whichever the first pub we
stopped at in Foster/Tuncurry is, because that's as far as we
made it the next day. The weather was unbelievable, pissing
rain and squally crosswinds, and the publican looked at us
with horror and pity and let us park our bikes in the
undercover bit of the beer garden, where we spent a lot of
that night sipping beers and apologizing to our bikes and each
other for having come up with this plan in the first place :).

Top Pub in Uralla is pretty sweet too. Only just up the road from Walcha

Yeah I know where Uralla is, Mum lives in Bendemeer - if I was going to
go an extra 80K up the road I'd stay at her place...but I can't think of
a single reason to stay in Uralla - it's not like the Walcha / Uralla
road is particularly interesting, and it's an extra half hour more away
    from the Oxley...

(no offence, and thanks for the suggestion)

I'll be heading up that way myself next week, got a sister up in Bundarra,
I'll be turning off at Uralla. After her kids drive me mad I'll be heading
to Glen Innes,Grafton, then after a week at the folks place, making my way
back to the big smoke. First ever tour on a bike so I'm really looking
forward to it but not the aches and pains to go with it!!
Won't be breaking any speed records, just cruising along smelling the
roses(and cow dungs) at 80-120kph (i got a big snout), I'm on holidays so no
    rush!!

    Cheers

  12. Gotta get the vote for one of the most motorcyclist friendly pubs
around. We stopped there on the way down to the Canberra Ulysses AGM.
Can't ask for much better customer service than that, plus threw open
the kitchen for us to help ourselves to breaky on the house.

  18. Ah well. It was a bloody great day for it anyway. I got sunburnt and damn
near burst a blood vessel and overheated coming down the twisties. Luckily,
me and Pat found a rally at Long Flat pub to recuperate, drink beer, see a
band and socialise while JL went back for another run. We were three tired
dudes by the time we made it back up to Walcha but the whiskey worked!
