Oh, those signals! I'd already switched to the new use (from observed
behavior) of using them to indicate that the space beside me is open
for the guy behind me on that side to move into.

If you actually want to change lanes, a signal is a good way to
persuade someone to maneuver to keep you where you are, unfortunately.
It wasn't always like that around here.

    heh

I was going down the road and wanted to change lanes so I flipped the
signal on. The stupid woman text to me kept pace with me and absolutely
refused to let me over. I tried slowing down and speeding up. She was so
intent on not letting me move over she didn't notice the car in front of
her slowed to make a right turn. *smash*

LOL! Reminds me of one day, we were hanging out on the sidewalk outside
Zeitgeist, kickin tires and such. This lady drove by and made a point of
yelling out her car window, "JESUS LOVES YOU!" She was so intent on
spreading her message of love, she failed to see the cars in front of
    her were stopped. *smash*

Tch. Some people are born idiots.

He he he, I can't help but laugh everytime someone says that because it
makes me think of a t-shirt I saw.
    Others are self-made.

My wife, years ago, saw a bumper sticker that said "Honk if you love
Jesus" and quickly realized that this was an effective mechanism for
preventing people behind you from honking. Being, however, honest and
practical, she got herself a license plate frame that says "Honk if
you like obscene gestures." Once in a while some high school kids
honk. Usually they just laugh. She did notice that it became easier to
    merge onto the freeway, however.
Others have idiocy thrust upon them.

  7. Yeah -- those stopped cars, for example, might have
included a motorcycle. Not only does two-wheeled
transport not reward inattention or incapacity, it
    magnifies those traits in others.

Speaking of waiting at a red light and wondering
what might be approaching from behind, the mirrors
on my 749 Duc are nicely integrated with the turn
signal indicators, and give me a lovely view of my
shoulders. I suppose that this is consistent with
the Italian theory that what's behind me is not
important. Sometimes, though, what's behind me
    is a faster motorcyclist.
