Plea for help on the forums at 100% Biker site. If anyone can help
they can contact me and I will pass the info on.
    Thanks.

Was anyone traveling Southbound on the M1 near J18 yesterday
(18/07/05) before 8 a.m.? Did you see a vehicle drop a bloody great
length of 4x4 timber? If so can you provide any info about the
    vehicle?

I hit this timber around 8 a.m, bike went up in the air resulting in a
bad fracture to my thumb (plaster cast up to the elbow for at least
4weeks), loads of bruises and the odd friction burn, and a very
secondhand Bandit 1200. As the vehicle is so far unidentified I'm
having to pursue a personal injury claim via the Motor Insurers
Bureau, but I'm on my own for damage to the bike and about £900 worth
of leathers and helmet (they're now knackered but saved me from what
would have been horrific injuries if I'd been wearing anything less).
Any help that anyone can give would be appreciated.

  4. In uk.rec.motorcycles, BORG amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
No, but yesterday I saw a pikey flatbed drop (literally) a shedload of
bricks on the Hammersmith one way system. The first corner saw a good
few come off and when the second load toppled over he must've had a
glint of conscience for about six seconds because he stopped before
weighing up whether they were worth picking up before deciding they
weren't and driving of in a slow and sheepish fashion.

How does a truck drive off 'sheepishly'?

With a wooly throttle because of Barrrometric pressure.

No, seriously, the truck wasn't sheepish, he was. He was driving like
enough of a **** to lose the load and then after stopping moved very
slowly. That says sheepish to me.

Not that I know off, though we do carry a wide variety of goods.

All our trailors are curtainsiders or tilts so no chance of anything
    falling off accidently.

Err, how do you fail to see a lump of 4X4 timber in the road ? Might be
hard to avoid if it's side on of course, but wouldn't you see a whole
bunch of cages swerving or flying through the air after hitting it if
    that was the case ?

There's loads of debris on the motorways. Pays to keep your eyes open
    when you're riding on them.
