Phoned various insurance companies today and the general consensus is that
bikes with a value in excess of £2,500 must be garaged or they won't quote!

So looks like I'm looking in the used market because the few quotes I did
    get were just ridiculous.

  9. presumably this applies for your postcode. Don't worry too much - it's
just a new way of stopping people in cities buying new bikes. Before
long there will be no new bikes sold and no insurance policies being
taken out. This neatly kills off motorcycling, motorcylcle dealers and
insurance companies. Sounds like a plan to me.

I look forward to this logic being applied to the owners of cars.
There is the option of seeing if there is a garage to rent within a
close distance. I rent a council one not far from my flat which at least
means I can obtain insurance cover. Not ideal but you might be surprised
at how many garages there are even in areas which apparently don't have
any. Check the website of your local authority to see if any are
    available for rent.

    I do.

I still can't see why you picked that London borough, though.
