About Ben S....

  1. No flash-in-the-pan, the guy can ride full stop!, *lucky* for Haga Ben
was finding his way in the first few races....

Wonder if he interested in a ride swap with NickyH?

    Cheers

Race 1 was a bummer; way to go for him to take #2.
That original start in Race 1 was a clusterfuck. I hope Max and Makoto
    will be ok.

Stupid, stupid race track design. Not only the F1 designed chicane, but
the F1 required hard surfaces so people can take short cuts as well
followed by a ride through or a time penalty.

Maybe they could ignore the first chicane on the first lap? That would
    be different.

And then there's the flock of pigeons(?) I don't ever remember that
before at Monza. Still I suppose it's not quite as bad as the PI
    seagulls.

So how did Haga crash? Was he just trying too hard to make up time?

You're asking us Speed viewers that?................We probably were
watching Smiling Bob and his woody pill! Did he (Haga) crash twice or
just get balked the first time! I know the announcers lost him for a
while then found him running mid-pack. Next we saw was him walking
towards the fence and a replay of a tumbling bike. Never reported if
    he sustained injuries?

    Noriyuki Haga (Race 1 - 2nd, Race 2 - DNF)
"Right at the start of Race 2 I was hit by a bird on my right arm; it hurt a
lot and I lost all sensation, with strong pain and pins and needles in my
right arm and hand. I tried to continue to race but it was too difficult to
ride and as a result I unfortunately fell. Yes it hurts but I should be back
in top shape very soon. Race 1 went much better for me of course and I
really enjoyed the racing against Ben and Michel. I though at the end that I
would surely end third but then Ben's bike stopped so close to the finish
line and I finished in second as a result. I'm sorry for him as he deserved
the win and this year me and him will continue to battle it out. Despite the
Race 2 result I still hold a 54 point advantage and so I'm satisfied with
    that."

In the second race four guys didn't start because of that race one
start and six others were penalized because of running off at the
chicanes and rejoinimng improperly. So ten guys impacted by track
peculiarities, which is ridiculous. On the latter, it seems like they
really didn't explain the process properly, what you have to do to
avoid a penalty. Or maybe they should let guys run on through and
rejoin on the pace but establish automatic time deductions for each
corner with that track setup. That screws up the order, though, and
would make the race very hard to follow in spots.

I doubt they could just run 'em straight into curva grande without the
chicane, too fast and too little runoff, the starting grid is too far
    back.

Why would ANYONE want to swap rides for the Ducati until someone
demonstrates that it can be ridden fast by someone other than Stoner?
Right now it's very nearly a career killer.

Race 1 was another amazing show. What a heartbreaker for Ben, he
    really earned that one.

Was I the only one wondering why Spies didn't hop off and start
pushing? There was quite a gap behind those three and I think he
might have picked up a few extra points if he'd jumped off sooner and
started running. The way this season is going he needs every point he
    can get.

Wondered the same thing.......I suppose the rules prohibit teammates
    (or others) from assisting?

Those hard surface runoffs show us what a bunch of 'Champagne
Charlys' (sic) that the in charge lot are. I watched F3 racing at
Silverstone the other day and drivers were doing impossible speeds
into corners because they knew that if it went wrong they would cross
the grass and get to a tarmac strip, then rejoin the race without
losing a place! Really dire driving standards. Bikes shouldn't race at
these circuits, I don't know if there have been any major bike
accidents because of these tarmac runoffs but its only a matter of
time for them at an international.

  11. I'm pretty sure they do. IIRC there's a formula where pit-crew
can't assist until the vehicle had crossed the designated start of the
pits but I can't remember if that's F1 or GP!. ISTR a case at Assen where
a rider wasn't classified because, while his bike passed the finish line,
he didn't (and running after it didn't count).

Well the one at Monza was fairly bad, and looking at the photos could very
much have changed the championship as Haga and Spies were close together
when the bike went across infront and took out Neukirchner.

But we shouldn't have ifs and buts in racing. :)

Monza has been a crap track for years. When I think of the changes
they had to make at Laguna for Moto GP it's sad to see what "heritage"
will buy you in Ducati land. It was those same F1 alterations that
prematurely ended Rainey's career with the waved gravel traps. Cars,
bikes. They're different! Monza is a boring track and I'd love to see
them bring one back into the fold that the riders themselves miss such
as Turkey or Brazil or.... Laguna!

eh? Have you actually watched any Superbike races from Monza in the
    last 10 years?
Turkey was only on the calendar for a couple of years, tho most riders
did like it. Unlike Brazil, which most riders thought too bumpy
    slippery.
