has just announced, on News 24, that the cost of living has fallen
because inflation has dropped to 4.5%.

    Tsk!

Yeah, goods are cheaper here too. Apparently. Great. When people get
jobs, maybe they'll be able to afford this cheap food.

I wonder if the rate of inflation will drop more quickly soon or whether the
rate at which it drops will slow down...

    Sky seems good too:-

    http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Bu...o_4.5_Percent_In_October_Thanks_Mainly_To_Oil

    Headline -
"Huge Drop In The Cost Of Living "

    2nd para -
"The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) - the Government's
official benchmark for the cost of living - slowed to
4.5% in October from 5.2% the previous month."

"Lies damn lies and Statistics." - said someone.

**** knows what they think they are doing? Well we
know that they are selling ads but quite how that
    helps I can't understand.

Was the same with house prices a month or two back.
    to paraphrase-
    "Huge fall in house prices."
"House prices rose by only 20% in the last 12 months. In
the previous 3 months they rose by £25,000."
(Ed. says - meaning the average house price
rose at the rate of £25,000 a year).

    Seems to be -
    - find some random numbers
    - do some random arithmmetic
    - *offer numbers for comparison utilising differing units*
    - write some scary words
    - job's a good un.

That's a great book, isn't it? It's all fairly basic stuff, but it
has to be as entertaining as a book on statistics can possibly be.

  7. That's like saying that cholera is as entertaining as potentially fatal
    bowel diseases go..
