So, I was wondering if anyone is thinking of doing a week on bikes
somewhere European and mountainy this year?

The plan: Riding in the day, with stops at random hotels / B&B's or
perhaps even tents somewhere more picturesque? Perhaps a few beers in
the evening.. No agenda. Just fun on bikes.

If anyone likes the sound of this, or has good suggestions here's the
    thread to follow up on..

I'm heading off for 3 weeks at the end of june. First week down through
France then 10 days based in Austria close to the Swiss and Italian
borders riding lots of passes and ... I'm not sure after that.
    Can't wait.

    **** that.
As ever, I'd be well keen on the idea, and can offer a night or three
at either end chez nous if required. I've given up trying to initiate
these sorts of things, but will gladly lay on food and drinks by the
    pool if anyone fancies it...

I've had this idea of 'Switzerland on a budget' in my head since the
Mugello trip, might do that one solo though... or even by car seeing as
I'll have a TDi from tomorrow... just thought I'd throw it into the mix
as an idea.. I do prefer hotels after days spent biking.
    Great. Thanks for that Bruce.

Also to be totally clear, I'm not 'organising' so much as trying to find
a common start date for the trip. Everyone buys their own ticket and we
    meet at Le Tunnel.

That's pretty much my plan, but the week through France can be done in a
    day, easily.

I enjoyed using Barcelonette as a base last year, lovely town.

I'm going by Rosyth/Zeebrugge and the ferry doesn't get in till 11am and
I try to avoid mways where possible so it's a couple of days to the south
of France. My folks will be in Nimes about the same time so I'll have a
    few days there.

I had a few days scooting about there last year based in Gap. Weather
    was tops.

It's my way of getting out of organising things.. Price myself out of
the market.. Plus if anyone's foolish enough to pay then they get an
    exclusive stylish garment... or something.
I don't know yet, but, later in the year. Late July early August I'd
    have thought.
