A satisfactory fettle and the end of an era.

I no longer have the loudest bike on UKRM. After shattering the idyllic
peace of sundry towns and villages across Europe during my 6 countries in
a day run, I finally decided that the Termis would have to go.
Consequently, I put the originals back on this afternoon. I also removed
the Power Commander as I don't really need it without the Termis and it
will make selling them easier if the Power Commander is included.

When I have sold the Termis I will probably get a pair of Quills or GPRs
which have a better tone than the originals (but still a lot quieter than
the Termis). They also don't require changes to the fuelling and so are an
    easy replacement.

The only problem now is that with quieter exhausts the clutch now sounds
really, really loud - fortunately I have a replacement ready, waiting for
    another sunny afternoon.

I have also fitted a nice fat battery cable to a blind terminal under the
seat so if it ever needs another jump start It should be a simple
    process.

Apart from a satisfactory bit of fettling, my afternoon was also enlivened
by a tree falling across the road outside my house, resulting in much
traffic chaos, shouting and hooting. Somebody in a Landrover eventually
turned up with a length of rope and dragged it to one side, freeing up one
    lane and ruining the entertainment.

Reminded me of my childhood - sort of - collecting horse droppings in the
street from the milkman's horse. Except that in these circumstances I would
have rushed out with my chainsaw rather than a bucket and shovel.

If that was Adies old one it wasn't very loud at all because it was a
    road legal end can.

The XR400R I had for a short while ranks as the loudest bike I have
ever had. That thing would set off car alarms in the next village if I
dared take the revs above tick-over. It was so bad that I even did
something about making it a little quieter.

The Blackbird with Promotives on was borderline raucous, but the most
offensive noise had to come from the KH500.

I thought about that but I only have an electric chainsaw - and the lead
    wouldn't have been long enough.

Gets willy out - my Guzzi has what are for all intents open megas.

    Certainly makes children cry.

  12. I used to get complaints about the Zorstec system on my XJR,
particularly from my Dad ("why do you have to have it so loud?") with
it's Venom end-cans. I didn't think it was that bad compared to some of
you window-rattlers...but still... yay for noisy bastards =)

I think I should get around to tightening the downtube - cylinder nuts
on the YP250 - it is getting rather RORTY.
But that means unscrewing panels and I am feeling lazy.

117dB at idle for the MV with the straight through Casoli pipes fitted.
I think Ogden would quite literally have killed me if I used those on
    the Alpinestars trip.

  17. WUN's Basmati Tice Racer was the loudest thing I've ever heard. The
loudest stock production bike I've ever ridden was a Laverda Montjuic.
How they got that thing homologated, God only knows.

I loved the sound of that bike, but it wasn't even close to being as
    loud as my R30.

The Italians would have loved them however. I'll probably never forget
that moment the Carabinieri pulled me over apparently just wanting to
see what exhausts I had on the bike, they paused took a quick look at
the bike, grinnedg and waved me off again.
